Life and Career
Kay was born in Lymington, Hampshire, England and moved to Brussels, Belgium at a young age. His mother, Stephanie, is from Newcastle upon Tyne while his father, Ivan, is from Peterborough. In 2006, Kay and his family moved to Prague in the Czech Republic, where he attended the International School of Prague.
Kay's career started whilst living in the Czech Republic, where he noticed a casting call for English-speaking children to be extras in a film. Despite having no past experiences in acting, Kay got a speaking role in the film The Illusionist, however his scenes were ultimately cut from the film. Kay also had small roles in the films Hannibal Rising and My Boy Jack. At 10 years old, Kay landed the role of Young Jakob on the 2007 drama film Fugitive Pieces, beating over 150 boys for the part. In 2008, Kay featured in a miniseries adaptation of Pinocchio, playing the role of the puppet boy.
More recently, Kay appeared in a low budget film called Ways to Live Forever, playing the role of a young boy who is dying of leukaemia. In 2011, Kay had a small role on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides alongside Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz.
Starting in 2013, Kay portrayed Peter Pan on the ABC fantasy series Once Upon a Time, appearing as the primary antagonist for the first half of the show's third season. In 2016, he returned to Once Upon a Time as Peter Pan for the second half of the fifth season and made an appearance in the 100th episode of the show.
