Weaver: Yeah, I didn't like him because he was full of hope and belief. I liked him because he fought for those things.

History

During First Curse

Henry is born in a prison in Phoenix, Arizona, and given up for adoption by his birth mother, Emma, because she wishes to give him his best chance in life. ("Tallahassee," "The Heart of the Truest Believer")

After being given up by Emma, he is placed with his first family, but for an unknown reason, it doesn't work out. He is put up for adoption again in Boston, where Regina adopts him, and she names him Henry after her father. Upon bringing him back to Storybrooke with her, Regina finds Henry is very fussy and difficult to calm down. She attempts to tell him a bedtime story, but he suddenly vomits on her shirt. A thorough check by Dr. Whale at the hospital proves Henry is healthy, but he suggests looking into the birth parents' medical records for genetic diseases. While Regina talks with Sidney on the phone about looking up the information, she hands her son to a hospital volunteer, Mary Margaret, who instinctively begins rocking and soothing him. Stunned that Henry has finally quieted down, she takes him back into her own arms, to which he starts to cry again, leading her to believe there is something wrong with her as a mother. When Regina, at last, manages to help Henry relax, she learns from Sidney about her child's birth mother, who was abandoned in the woods eighteen years ago, causing her to suspect this is the grown-up savior of the curse. Since Mr. Gold was the one who procured Henry for her, Regina confronts him about orchestrating everything, but he chalks up her erratic behavior to being a full-time mom. She return Henry to Boston, where he will be given to the next potential family. As Regina says goodbye to him, she realizes that she loves Henry, despite who his birth mother is, and decides to keep him. In fear that the savior will come to reclaim Henry one day, Regina decides to erase her own knowledge of Henry's birth mother. While Henry is resting in a crib, she brings him to her vault. She tells him a story of a queen and her prince as she makes and then drinks a potion to help herself forget about the identity of his birth mother. ("Save Henry")

At ten years old, Henry is given a Tron: Legacy lunchbox by Regina. Overall, he feels unloved by his adoptive mother, and is further saddened by the fact his birth mother gave him up. He relates all of this to his teacher, Ms. Blanchard, during lunchtime. Henry is also frustrated by the sameness in town, and believes he doesn't belong. To cheer Henry up, she gives him a fairytale storybook, and explains the stories in it are a reminder that his life will get better if he just holds onto hope. He shows interest in the book, and casually flips through it. For a brief moment, Henry sees a mirage of Ms. Blanchard as a princess. ("Wake Up Call," "Going Home")

Henry becomes rebellious towards Regina and begins having therapy sessions with Archie. From reading the storybook, he realizes the stories in the book are real as well as that every person in Storybrooke is a fairytale character under the influence of the Dark Curse. Henry also recognizes his mother as the Evil Queen and has knowledge about the savior, also his birth mother, who is prophesied to break the curse in twenty-eight years. Seeing as it's now twenty-eight years, he steals Ms. Blanchard's credit card and uses it on an online website to track down his birth mother, Emma Swan, in Boston. After she opens the apartment door, he introduces himself as the baby she gave up ten years ago. When Emma threatens to call the police, Henry nonchalantly replies that he'll just tell them she kidnapped him. Emma is not convinced and uses her "superpower" to detect his lie. As she begins making the call, Henry pleas for her to come back to Storybrooke with him. On the drive there, he animatedly fills her in on his book and proclaims all the fairytales in it are real. Upon entering Storybrooke, Henry's refusal to give out his home address prompts Emma to step out of the car, to which Archie approaches them on the street. Henry is dishonest when Archie asks him about why he skipped their session and is advised against being untruthful. Archie gives Emma the address of Henry's mother and leaves. Henry insists that Archie is Jiminy Cricket and everyone is under the Evil Queen's curse. At his house, he steps out of the car but purposely leaves his storybook behind. Henry is greeted by an anxious and worried Regina, but runs past her while remarking Emma is his "real" mom. Later, from his bedroom window, Henry watches Emma leave the house. The next day, Henry is severely disappointed that time still hasn't moved forward since bringing Emma back to town. He runs away to his castle playground where Emma returns his book. He speaks about his own adoption and his belief she gave him up for the best chance in life, which brings tears to Emma's eyes. However, they butt heads over his fairytale theory. He even begs Emma not to bring him back to Regina because life with her "sucks" and encourages her to stay in town for at least a week to prove the curse is real. This prompts Emma to disclose how she was abandoned twice; once at birth and then again by her first set of foster parents, though he contends she came through a magic tree as an infant. After going home, he stares at the clock tower from his window until it begins moving forward in time. To this, he realizes Emma decided to stay after all. ("Pilot")

The next morning, Henry sits on his bed happily as he watches the clock move. His mom walks in with his storybook, and asks where the torn out pages are. He claims not to know, though Regina cares quite a bit as Henry seems to think she is some "evil queen", and it hurts her feelings as his mother. Henry retorts that she is not his mother, and as the clock tower chimes, he rushes off to the diner to order a cinnamon hot chocolate for Emma. From another table booth, he reveals himself and invites her to walk him to school. Upon seeing her try to eat one of Regina's apples, he hastily throws it away and engages her in conversation about the curse by adopting the name "Operation Cobra" to keep the Evil Queen off their trail. He pulls out torn out pages from the storybook, and claims the infant in the drawing is her. During an outdoor school lesson, he called out by his mom, who tells him that Emma was arrested. Though Regina warns that Emma is a con woman, he is unfazed by the news and excuses himself back to class. With Mary Margaret, Henry bails Emma out of jail. After school, he arrives home to overhear Emma in discussion with Regina, and is extremely hurt when she refers to him as "crazy". Henry runs off before she can explain. Later, while still upset, he refuses to talk during a session with Archie until Emma bursts in to clear up the misunderstanding. Emma regains Henry's trust by telling him she told Regina what was necessary to throw her off their trail as they work to break the curse. To prove her point, she takes the storybook pictures and burns them in the fireplace so Regina will never find out. With his faith restored, Henry happily runs to hug Emma. ("The Thing You Love Most")

During a hospital volunteer day with his class, Henry curiously wanders into the room of a comatose patient, John Doe, when Mary Margaret enters. She explains the mystery of the man's identity. From this, he begins to believe John Doe is Prince Charming, and later proclaims to Emma that the man is her father. Through much persistence, he begs Emma to have Mary Margaret read the Snow White fairytale in his book to John Doe. Mary Margaret agrees, and the three plan to meet at the diner for a full report in the morning. Henry waits expectantly with Emma, and is pleased when Mary Margaret blurts out that John Doe grabbed her hand in his sleep. They rush back to the hospital only to discover John Doe disappeared the previous night. Regina drags Henry back home while Sheriff Graham takes care of the investigation, but he sneaks out into the forest as a search party is ongoing. He insists that John Doe is looking for Mary Margaret. While Emma wants to take Henry home, Graham finds John Doe's patient tag. At the shore, Mary Margaret begins resuscitating John Doe using mouth-to-mouth, nearly giving up, when he sputters awake. Back at the hospital, Henry and the others watch from outside the door as John Doe is put into recovery when a blonde woman, Kathryn, rushes in. As it turns out, Kathryn is John Doe's long lost wife, and his real name is David Nolan. Regina calls Henry to leave for home, though he makes an excuse to grab his backpack. To Mary Margaret, he assures that she and David belong together. ("Snow Falls")

Henry obediently follows Regina's rules for staying home and doing his homework, but once she leaves for a council meeting, he bolts out to find Emma at Mary Margaret's apartment. Henry runs into Mr. Gold, who is just leaving the apartment, and expresses confusion to Emma over the identity of his fairytale counterpart. Emma informs Henry that a pregnant woman, Ashley, is missing, and she needs to find her. Henry ignores her orders to go home and follows along to the diner, where she proceeds to interrogate Ruby. When Ruby reveals that Ashley has two stepsisters and a stepmother, Henry quickly catches on and starts to mention "Operation Cobra", but Emma shushes him before he can finish. Next, Emma decides to see Ashley's ex-boyfriend, Sean. She is told by his father, Mitchell Herman, that Ashley has agreed to sell her baby to Mr. Gold. Henry warns her that she cannot make Ashley break a deal with Mr. Gold. When the duo questions Ruby again, she admits she let Ashley have her car to drive out of Boston. Emma sends Henry home, but as she is driving away to find Ashley, he pops up in the back seat. He states that no one will be able to leave Storybrooke because of the Dark Curse, and if anyone tries, bad things will happen. On the side of the road, Ashley is going into labor, to which Emma drives her back to the hospital. While in the waiting room, Henry claims to Emma that no one can leave Storybrooke except her. This fact, he argues, reinforced his idea about the Enchanted Forest and that she really was the savior. After Emma saves Ashley's baby from being taken by Mr. Gold, she drives Henry home. He narrowly escapes getting caught by Regina when she gets home. ("The Price of Gold")

The next day, Henry is in another session with Archie. He strongly believes his therapist used to be Jiminy Cricket as Archie humors him. Moments after, the town suffers an earthquake and a large sinkhole appears at the entrance of an abandoned mine. He and Archie go to the site to have a look. Henry notices Regina tuck something into her coat and believes the sinkhole must have evidence of the curse. He relates this idea to both Archie and Emma but is cut off when Regina orders him into her car. At the next therapy session, Marco comes to Archie's office in order to see his long-time friend. Henry excitedly reveals that Marco is actually Geppetto, and outlines his plans to search the mine because he is positive that the sinkhole's sudden appearance has something to do with the curse. Archie cuts him off; telling him that if he continues on with his crazy idea, people will think he is insane and lock him up. Henry is crushed by Archie's demand that his nonsense must end, and leaves visibly upset. In tears, he goes straight to Emma, who comforts him and then drops him back home. Nonetheless, Henry is unable to give up on his idea, and ventures into the mines. Inside, he removes a piece of decorative glass that bears a striking similarity to the one Regina pocketed earlier. Suddenly, the ceiling begins collapsing. Henry finds Archie inside the mines as well, and they become lost. From following the sound of Pongo's bark, they come upon an elevator and start cranking it upward to the surface, but it gets stuck halfway up. Henry apologizes for being reckless as Archie is also remorseful for his own harsh words earlier. In truth, he doesn't really think Henry is crazy, and though Regina is extremely protective, it's perfectly fine to have an imagination. In turn, Henry inspires Archie to change into the person he wants to be rather than listening to other people all the time. They discuss Henry's fairytale theory, and his firm belief that there simply has to be more to the world. Suddenly, Emma is lowered down on a harness to bring them up. Archie almost falls with the collapsing elevator but latches on to Emma's foot with the umbrella. All three of them are lifted to safety. ("That Still Small Voice")

After David is released from the hospital, he and Emma attend his welcome home party. Henry theorizes that David doesn't remember his life as Prince Charming due to the curse, and needs to recall them before his false memories set in. Emma tries to convince him that the reason David got lost a few nights back by the Toll Bridge is due to amnesia. Henry thinks if David is asked about his previous sword fighting skills as Prince Charming, it will jog his memory. When he openly inquiries about this later, David laughs at the thought. ("The Shepherd")

Sheriff Graham stops by Regina's house where Henry answers the door. Graham wants to speak with Henry, and asks Henry if he is in his book. After showing him a picture of wolf, Graham recognizes it as the Wolf he has seen around Storybrooke, and tells Henry that he has been flashes of what he believes to be a past life, and they began after he kissed Emma. Henry is surprised Graham kissed Emma, and listens as he continues to describe the flashes; one being the wolf, the other having a knife and getting ready to hurt Mary Margaret. Henry turns the page, and finds out that Graham is the Huntsman because he was raised by wolves, and once spared Snow White's life. Graham asks what happened to him after he spared Snow White's life, and Henry states the Evil Queen ripped out his heart. ("The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter")

At some point, Emma learns the result of Graham's autopsy and tells Henry that he died of natural causes, but the kid does not buy it. Henry becomes increasingly depressed and, two weeks after the sheriff's death, he warns Emma that they should not mess with the curse. He blames himself for Graham's death and wants to give up on "Operation Cobra". However, his faith is renewed when Emma wins the position as the new town sheriff. ("Desperate Souls")

A few days later, Henry is browsing in Mr. Clark's store when two children about his age walk up to him. They introduce themselves as Ava and Nicholas and ask him to hang out. Just as Henry is about to leave, Mr. Clark corners them and accuses them of shoplifting. He calls Regina who, when she arrives, is confident that Henry is framed by the two orphans. Henry arrives at the police station and tells Emma that Ava and Nicholas are really Hansel and Gretel, and asks her about his birth father. Emma tells him that his father was a man training to be a firefighter who liked pumpkin pie and died trying to save a family from a burning apartment building.

Emma succeeds in reuniting Ava and Nicholas with their father, and Henry gets a pumpkin pie to share with Emma. As they leave the diner, he comments she really is changing things in Storybrooke. Suddenly, they hear a rumbling noise, and turn to see a man on a motorcycle riding into town. ("True North")

In the morning, Henry walks out of his house with his backpack when he sees the stranger from last night with his motorcycle and a large box attached to the back of it. He asks the man what he is doing in Storybrooke, and that no one ever comes here. Regina notices Henry conversing with the stranger, and comes out to investigate, but the man drives away quickly on his motorcycle. ("7:15 A.M.")

Regina demolishes Henry's castle playhouse for safety reasons, which upsets him greatly. He also discovers that his storybook of fairytales has disappeared. Emma tries to expose Regina for wasting Storybrooke's stolen money on a separate house for herself in the woods, however, the house turns out to be a modern playground for all the children of Storybrooke. Regina then warns Emma to stay away from Henry, or else she will take legal action against her. While Henry is playing on the playground with the other children, he asks if they can talk about "Operation Cobra" sometime. Emma declines and says that his mom might keep her away from him if they tried. As she drives away, Henry watches her leave. ("Fruit of the Poisonous Tree")

A few days later, during Mr. Gold's imprisonment for physical assault on Moe, Regina arrives at the station with Henry. She bribes Emma to spend some time with him so she can speak to Mr. Gold for thirty minutes. He and Emma go to the parlor to get ice cream. ("Skin Deep")

After that, Regina gives Henry a video game to apologize for her destroying his castle, but Henry still misses his book. A few minutes later, a visibly upset Kathryn comes into Regina's office in order to speak with her, and Henry leaves. Emma later finds his storybook and surprises him by returning it. ("What Happened to Frederick")

Many days later, he helps out in the sheriff's office browsing on the computer through possible jobs for a recently unemployed Ruby. Most of the job listings involve carrying something in a little basket and delivering it, but she does not like the sound of any of them. However, Ruby is very good at directing and answering office telephone calls, which Emma takes note of. Emma hires Ruby as her assistant. When David is reported in a daze in the woods, Emma is ready to go look for him when Henry cuts in. He reveals that Ruby is actually Red Riding Hood, but that she does not know how cool she can be. Emma heeds Henry's advice and takes Ruby with her. Ruby successfully finds David, and later finds a crucial piece of evidence under the Toll Bridge linking Mary Margaret to Kathryn's murder. ("Red-Handed")

Soon after Mary Margaret's arrest, Henry sits a the diner counter trying to think of ways he can help. August comes in and offers him some encouragement. August tells Henry to look inside his book for the answers. He becomes excited at the prospect of someone believing in him and browses through the book. ("Heart of Darkness")

After coming to the sheriff department, he finds Mary Margaret's cell empty. He sits out in the hallway until Emma and Mr. Gold walk up to him, and he tells them they did a good thing by freeing Mary Margaret from her cell. Emma is confused until she goes into the sheriff's office to see what he is talking about. In a panic, she leaves the station to find Mary Margaret, and eventually finds her in a crazed stranger's house, who believes himself to be the Mad Hatter with a daughter named Grace. The next day, Emma talks with Henry before he has go to class. A classmate, Paige, greets Henry on her way into the school building. Puzzled by the girl's appearance, Emma asks Henry for his book, and he happily offers it up. She flips through the book until she sees a picture page with the Mad Hatter and Grace. ("Hat Trick")

With August's assistance, Emma follows up a lead that Mary Margaret has been set up by Regina. She finds proof of a shovel piece, to which Henry helps set them up to enter into the house garage with a key while Regina is busy in the shower. Inside Regina's garage, August and Emma find a shovel is a perfect match for the piece they found earlier. However, when Emma comes back the next day with a search warrant, the shovel is gone. Despite the setback, they do find a disheveled and alive Kathryn in the diner alley. ("The Stable Boy")

One morning, August suffers a severe leg spasm, and phones Henry to "move the plan along faster". On a rainy morning, they have a stakeout across the street from Mr. Gold's pawnshop. Henry does not understand how this is part of "Operation Cobra", but August asks him to do as he says. Henry goes into the store and distracts Mr. Gold by asking to buy a homecoming gift for Mary Margaret, who has since been released from custody following Kathryn's reappearance. Later, at the party, he asks August if he found what he was looking for, and how bad was it when Mr. Gold caught him snooping in the store. August admits he did not find what he wanted, but he believes "it" will find him. Shortly thereafter, Emma escorts Henry out of the party as Regina does not know he is here, and he will have to go home since his mother will be home shortly. Emma opens the door just as David is preparing to come in. To save Mary Margaret the awkwardness of dealing with him, she asks Henry to walk home with David. ("The Return")

Since regaining his book, Henry notices the story of Pinocchio has been added to the pages. One day at school, Emma approaches him and asks to read the book, to which he happily obliges. However, he quickly notices that the new pages are strange and asks Emma for her help over it. She does not take him seriously and leaves. ("The Stranger")

After another bad encounter with Regina, and August's crazy suggestion that she is Storybrooke's "savior", Emma becomes fed up and wants to leave town with Henry. She offers him a ride in the car, and after does he realize what is happening, Henry forces the steering wheel to swerve, and the car comes to a halt in a brush of trees. He tells her that she must stay and break the curse. Emma reluctantly agrees to go back. Worried about Emma's lack of belief in the curse, Henry seeks out August at his bed and breakfast guest room. As August pulls up his pant leg, Henry is able to see the leg is wooden. August explains that it's no longer possible for him to help with "Operation Cobra" with his rapid transformation into wood and it's up to Henry. So, he rushes over to convince Emma that the curse is real, but she urgently tells him she is leaving town so the feud between her and Regina can stop. He hugs her tightly, unable to say goodbye, and then notices an apple turnover sitting on the table. Alarmed, he frantically asks where she got it from. Emma states it is a treat from Regina, but Henry is adamant that she doesn't eat it. Henry refuses to accept that Emma is leaving his life for good and promises her that he has faith in her, and will somehow prove that the curse exists. Henry grabs the apple pastry and before she can stop him, he takes a bite. At first, he seems fine, but then collapses unconscious. ("An Apple Red as Blood")

Emma rushes him to the hospital, but Henry is completely comatose. She shows Dr. Whale the apple turnover he ate, but he is not convinced that is what made Henry collapse. Emma is frustrated Dr. Whale does not believe her, and comes to the sharp conclusion what happened to Henry is like "magic". She dumps out everything in Henry's backpack and reaches for his storybook. With one touch of the book, a flash of the Enchanted Forest events come to her. Now enraged, she angrily confronts Regina about the apple turnover, and the poison she put it in, which was intended for Emma to consume. Mary Margaret reads to Henry in the hopes that he would wake up as David did, but it does not work. In the middle of her explanation for giving the book to him, his heart flat lines. Despite the doctors' best attempts, Henry seemingly passes away. Regina and Emma, who had been working on finding a magical cure, arrive on the scene, and both collapse in tears. Emma kisses Henry's forehead as a last goodbye, but, as a mother's love is unconditional, she unintentionally gives him true love's kiss and breaks the Sleeping Curse he is under as well as the Dark Curse. Henry wakes up, and everyone in Storybrooke regains memories of their former lives in the Enchanted Forest. However, Regina is horrified that the curse is broken, and in a panic, states her love for Henry, who looks at her questionably. Then, she rushes out of the hospital. From the window, Henry and Emma notice a purple cloud of magic, which was created by Mr. Gold, descending over the town. ("A Land Without Magic")

After First Curse

After the curse is broken, Henry reunites with Mary Margaret, David, the dwarves, Ruby, and Granny. While Emma and her parents hug, he calls David, "Grandpa", which the latter joyfully acknowledges before embracing him as well. Henry is scared for his adoptive mother when he hears that Dr. Whale is leading a mob to Regina's house and begs Emma and the others to stop it. After doing so, a Wraith released by Mr. Gold begins hunting down Regina, to which a magic hat is used to transport it into a portal, though Emma and Mary Margaret are also sucked in. In the aftermath, Henry walks in with Ruby to see his adoptive mother strangling David. He calls Regina an evil queen upon hearing what happened to Emma and Mary Margaret and refuses to see her again until they come back. Henry leaves with David and begins living in the apartment. ("Broken")

Outside the town hall, Henry waits with Ruby for David. When he arrives, Henry tries to cheer him up, but fails because Leroy runs in and reveals that if anyone leaves Storybrooke, they lose all their memories of the Enchanted Forest forever. He goes home with David and tries to help him with his speech in boosting the town residents' morale and calming the chaos, but then David runs off to seek out Jefferson to find a way to rescue Emma and Mary Margaret. Henry goes with Ruby to the meeting at the town hall, but David never shows up. Instead, Regina terrorizes the townspeople with her new-found magic until Henry grudgingly agrees to return home with her. Locking himself in his room, he attempts to escape out the window, but Regina blocks him with a barrier spell. Frustrated over being imprisoned, Henry accuses her of making him feel crazy because he knew, while the curse was still intact, the truth about the Enchanted Forest and the people in it. Wishing to make amends, she offers to teach him magic as much can be gained from it, but Henry declares he'd rather not become like her. Realizing she is making her son unhappy, Regina allows Henry to leave with David. She only wishes for him to be with her if he wants to and not by force. Regina promises Henry that she will strive to be worthy of his love and promises him that she will redeem herself. After departing with David, they head to the diner where Henry tells Marco of his son's true identity. ("We Are Both")

Hoping to help retrieve Emma and Mary Margaret, Henry suggests to David that they take on the mission name "Operation Scorpion". Regretfully, David doesn't want him to get involved and would rather he just attend school like an average boy. Henry is walked to the school bus, but he only pretends to get on. Once David is out of sight, he runs off to find the owner of the portal hat, Jefferson, who tells him about Regina's vault that may contain magic. Noticing Jefferson's troubled state, Henry urges him to find his daughter, Paige. Over the phone, Henry invites Regina to lunch at the diner. When she accepts and leaves her office, he breaks in to steal keys to the vault and unlock a box only for poisonous vipers to rear up at him. Luckily, he is quickly rescued by David who was informed by her after Henry stood her up and figured out what he was up to. Henry apologizes for disobeying him since he misses Emma and Mary Margaret very much. David comforts him, and the two leave the vault. Later, while Henry sits in Emma's car, David hands him a wooden sword as they start a sparring match. ("Lady of the Lake")

Henry hangs out in the mines watching David and the dwarves mining for fairy dust. The plan is to find fairy dust, and use it on Jefferson's hat with possible transportation to and from the Enchanted Forest. Ruby brings lunch in a basket, and Henry takes a muffin. ("The Crocodile")

At the stables, David shows Henry his new pony, telling him that he will need to take care of the animal and earn its trust before he can ride it. Henry starts to groom his pony, and David leaves the stables to tend to other matters. He continues to groom him for some time until a recently resurrected Daniel arrives and scares the pony; making it rear and bolt out of the stables in fear. Henry asks him to stop because he is scaring the horses, but then, seeing the blood on Daniel's hands, he offers to help him. This triggers a bad memory in Daniel's mind, and he grabs Henry's neck and lifts him off the ground. David arrives in time to save Henry and tells him to run. ("The Doctor")

During a terrifying nightmare, Henry wakes up screaming and is comforted by David. He tells David of seeing a room without windows and doors covered in blood red curtains with flames in the room, in addition to a female figure on the other side of the room who was observing him. David calms Henry down by lighting a candle to soothe him. Unbeknownst to either, Henry's nightmare closely mirrors that of another person. ("Tallahassee")

Henry is still having nightmares. David catches him trying to stay up by drinking coffee. He reassures Henry that everything will be fine and that he will watch over him, but when he has his nightmare and wakes screaming, it is Regina who comforts him. Henry wonders why she's there instead of David, and she informs him that David got an emergency call and was forced to leave. Henry discovers a burn on his hand, and in a panic realizes that his nightmares are real. Regina calls Mr. Gold over, who kindly gives Henry a necklace that lets him control his actions in the nightmare. The next time he goes to sleep, he is visited by a depressed David, who fears informing Henry he might never see Emma and Mary Margaret again due to Albert Spencer burning the hat out of revenge. Meanwhile, in his nightmare, Henry is delighted to discover that the necklace works, which allows him to put the fires out. He sees a woman and tells her that his name is Henry and that she should not be afraid. ("Child of the Moon")

When an asleep Henry revisits the Netherworld, the same woman, Aurora, is there and tells Henry she is with his mother and grandmother and that they need his help. Before she can tell him how, he wakes up. Frantically, he tells Regina and David the news. Amidst the good news, he tells Regina that they need help from her mother. Henry agrees to contact Aurora again in the netherworld. Regina and David sit by his bed as Mr. Gold tells Henry that the key to stopping Cora is the squid ink found in Rumplestiltskin's Cell. While in this nightmare, Henry tries to tell Aurora about the squid ink, but she cannot hear him and is sucked away. He wakes up and they ask him if he delivered the message. He says that he was not able to tell her. Regina notices a burn on his arm and refuses to send him back as the dreams are physically scorching him. Mr. Gold uses magic to heal Henry's arm. David, too, does not want to send Henry back and instead asks to be put under the sleeping curse.

Later, Henry watches as Regina combines the magical ingredients to form a sleeping curse for David. He asks her if she has stopped using magic. Regina admits to using magic on Daniel, and that she is trying to use it to help. Henry is pleased by this. Regina hands the curse to Mr. Gold who dips it into a needle. David asks Mr. Gold how to find Mary Margaret and he does not know. His finger is pricked, and David falls under the sleeping curse. As David lies asleep, Henry becomes increasingly concerned about why he isn't waking up. ("Into the Deep")

Regina goes to Henry and asks him to watch over David for a while because she is preparing for Cora's arrival with Mr. Gold. Before she leaves, Regina tells her son that she will do anything in her power to keep Emma and Mary Margaret safe. Later, Henry is awoken by the dwarves because all of the diamonds have disappeared, and they suspect Mr. Gold and Regina. With Ruby, Henry heads to the wishing well where Mr. Gold and Regina have placed an enchantment over it to kill anyone passing through the portal as they believe Cora will come through instead of Emma and Mary Margaret. As Henry confronts Regina, she claims to be protecting Henry from her mother who will destroy everything she loves; including him. Henry pleads for her to believe that Emma and Mary Margaret will be the ones to arrive in Storybrooke. Wishing to earn her son's love, Regina lifts the curse. Soon, Emma and Mary Margaret emerge from the well unscathed and reunite with Henry. They head to the pawnshop where Mary Margaret uses true love's kiss to awaken David from the sleeping curse. Henry hugs his mother; thankful and pleased that she truly has changed. Emma asks Henry if he would like lunch and he, along with Emma, Mary Margaret, David, Ruby and the dwarves, goes to the diner to celebrate. ("Queen of Hearts")

During a welcome home party for Emma and Mary Margaret, Henry hangs out with Regina and has some of her home-cooked lasagna. The next morning, after finishing up breakfast at the diner with Emma, they come across a distraught Pongo. Ruby, sensing something is off, goes with Emma to check Archie's office while Henry heads off to the bus stop for school. After school, Henry is saddened to learn that Regina killed Archie. ("The Cricket Game")

Henry tears up at Archie's funeral, and Emma tries her best to console him. After the funeral, he stays in his room and calls Archie's office just to hear the answering message. He is slightly cheered up after Emma gives him Pongo, who he takes outside to clean up. Mary Margaret and David announce that they are house hunting for another place to stay, so Henry draws a blueprint of what Mary Margaret's room will become. Emma notices that Henry has converted her room into an armory. He tells her it is so that they will be protected against Regina. Emma assures him that they will not need it. Then, Pongo is seen acting strangely around the front door. Emma opens the door to see an alive and well Archie, who explains he was abducted by Cora. Emma tells Henry that they need to contact Regina since they wrongfully blamed her for murder, though they may pay the price. ("The Outsider")

Later that night, Emma, David, and Mary Margaret spend the night trying to figure out what to do with a mysterious outsider who crashed into town as Henry is being taken care of by Granny. The following morning, he asks his family about what happened. As they reveal Dr. Whale's identity is Dr. Frankenstein, he realizes the story of Frankenstein doesn't exist in the storybook. He theorizes that if the curse took people from other stories, anyone could be in Storybrooke. Suddenly, Mr. Gold arrives demanding Emma fulfill the long-standing favor she owes him by helping to find his son. He threatens, if Belle is harmed in his absence, then they will all die. At these words, Emma hugs Henry protectively. ("In the Name of the Brother")

In the morning, Emma decides Henry must come with her while she is out of town with Mr. Gold so he'll be safe from Cora. As they drive past Storybrooke's border, Henry witnesses Mr. Gold's spell work, in which he retains his Enchanted Forest memories. Going through the airport metal detector, Mr. Gold is made to take off his shawl, a memento of his son. Overcome with physical weakness after losing the shawl, Mr. Gold takes out his anger on a bathroom paper dispenser, and he only stops when Henry arrives to tell him they are going to board the plane soon. Once they are on the plane to New York, Henry regards their travels excitedly while Emma reassures an unenthusiastic Mr. Gold that they will find his son. ("Tiny")

Arriving in Manhattan by taxi cab, the trio enters a building, where the magic globe previously pinpointed as the location of Mr. Gold's son. They look through the resident names listed on the apartment call buttons until Emma pushes one with no name on it. When the person on the other end picks up, she pretends to be a UPS delivery person. After the call is dropped abruptly, they hear scuffling and rush out to see a hooded man jump down the fire escape and flee from the street. As Emma gives chase, Henry and Mr. Gold spend time together. The older man buys him a hot dog, which the latter thanks him for. Later, the pair head back into the apartment complex to wait for Emma. Henry, noticing how fidgety Mr. Gold is, inquiries why he's nervous to see his son again. The boy recalls how happy he himself was to be reunited with Emma, but Mr. Gold hints that he and his son did not part on good terms. Henry reassures him that no matter what happened between them in the past, what counts now is that Mr. Gold wants his son back. When Emma returns to tell Mr. Gold that his son got away, he presses all the call buttons until one of the residents buzzes the front gate open. Going upstairs, Mr. Gold then pick locks his son's apartment door so he can search the room for clues about him. Noticing Emma's fixation on a dream catcher, he angrily confronts her about withholding information, and as his tone becomes threatening, she sends Henry to wait in the bathroom. Moments later, the boy hears shouting and returns to the room, where he sees Mr. Gold's son, Neal. Emma attempts to lead Henry out when Neal, realizing the child is his son, persistently asks for his age. Emma reluctantly admits to the truth as an upset Henry runs to the fire escape. Joining him, Emma apologizes for lying about his father, to which he likens her to Regina, who has lied to him as well. Later, Henry and Neal introduce themselves to each other and share a quiet moment on the balcony. From the window, Mr. Gold ominously recalls the Seer's prophecy about a boy leading him to his son, but who will also be his undoing. ("Manhattan")

In a short span of time, Henry and Neal develop a close bond. At some point during this, Neal swears him to secrecy about his past quest to find a way to destroy magic and mentions a journal he kept that contains all his research. One day, Henry is being shown around New York by Neal as Emma and Mr. Gold trail them. The father-son duo enters a store to grab some pizza and exit with a few slices. When Emma queries her son on how he likes the food, Henry states it is good, cheesy and doesn't lie; with the last part proving he is still angry at her for lying about his father. For their next outing, Neal suggests going to the museum, so the foursome return to the apartment to fetch Henry's camera. While Henry and Neal are upstairs, Emma defends Mr. Gold from a surprise assault from Hook, who she knocks out cold. Mr. Gold, stabbed and poisoned by Hook, is helped upstairs to the apartment. After Emma and Neal leave the room briefly, Henry offers to help Mr. Gold, who angrily tells him to stay away. Believing Henry is the boy in the seer's prophecy, he openly blames him for the grievous injury. Henry, confused about the older man's anger, sits back as Emma and Neal try to treat Mr. Gold's wound. ("The Queen Is Dead," "Only You")

On the way back to Storybrooke, Henry and Neal steer the Jolly Roger together. When they arrive in town, Mr. Gold states that he needs David, Emma, Neal, and Mary Margaret to come to his shop. Henry asks Emma if this means he will be going with Ruby, to which she replies yes. Before they leave, Henry assures them that they will get Cora. ("The Miller's Daughter")

In the apartment, Henry notices Mary Margaret is bedridden and refusing food. Confused, he asks Emma, and she says Mary Margaret is sick. However, Henry can tell she is lying. Eventually, she admits Mary Margaret is partially responsible for Cora's death. Mr. Gold visits to warn them about Regina's plans to get revenge on Mary Margaret. On David's insistence, Mr. Gold agrees to help them stop her. After investigating the vault, they find Regina intends to cast a "curse of the empty-hearted". The curse, when cast on someone—namely Henry—can make the caster think the person loves her. Furthermore, Mr. Gold explains, in order to enact the curse, Regina needs the heart of the person she hates—Mary Margaret. He suggests they end this feud by killing Regina, which a horrified Henry speaks out against. When no one else objects, he dashes out of the apartment. Emma catches up and hauls him to the diner where Neal tries to convince Henry that Storybrooke is not safe for him, and he needs to move to New York. Instead, Henry thinks it's best to get rid of magic so Regina can't use the curse, and everyone won't be out for her blood. When Neal presses the New York issue, he finally agrees to move out of town. After excusing himself to the bathroom, Henry flees through the woods and steals dynamite from the mines. He prepares to light it to blow up the wishing well, but Regina stops him. Henry pleads for his mother to not cast the curse, especially since it won't make him truly love her. David, Emma, and Neal arrive for a showdown with Regina, though Henry ceases their fighting. Henry believes the problem is everyone as magic is corrupting everyone. To placate him, Regina burns the curse parchment. He thanks her and leaves with David, Emma, and Neal. ("Welcome to Storybrooke")

August, after hiding out due to his still wooden state, is discovered by Mary Margaret. Henry and David join Emma, Marco and Mary Margaret on a walk to the sheriff's office where they believe August may be in trouble. As they reach the building, everyone witnesses August stumble out and collapse on the ground. Before he dies, August attempts to give Emma the name of the person who harmed him, but only manages to say "her". Henry realizes August can have a second chance at life if he has proven his actions to be selfless, brave and true. Agreeing with his opinion, Mother Superior tests out her wand on August and successfully reverts him into a seven-year-old Pinocchio. On their return to the apartment, Emma apologizes to Henry for lying to him about Neal and promises to not lie again. They make up with a hug and then go upstairs together. ("Selfless, Brave and True")

On a trip to the park, Henry and Neal practice wooden sword fighting. At the end of the day, Neal carries an asleep Henry home, and Emma tucks him into bed. ("Lacey")

While tending to birdhouses, Henry is caught off guard by Regina, who shows him a magic bean she intends to use to bring the both of them back to the Enchanted Forest. Upset that the townspeople kept the magic beans a secret from her, Regina informs him about a "fail-safe" that can erase Storybrooke. At first, Henry believes she means to wipe out the town and bring everyone to the Enchanted Forest, however, he is shocked when she admits she actually wants to let everyone die so they can be together without their interference. Henry threatens to warn the townspeople about her plan, but she cast a spell to erase his memory of the entire conversation. Later, in the apartment, Henry overhears Emma telling Mary Margaret a theory that Tamara is the "her" August was trying to warn them about. With Emma, they have a stakeout in the car outside of the inn to wait for Neal and Tamara to leave the premises. When Henry talks about having wanted to experience new things in the Enchanted Forest, he discovers from Emma that there is a way to go there, despite that she keeps denying it. After Neal and his lover finally leave, Emma begins pick locking Tamara's room. Once the door is open, she instructs Henry to keep watch and if someone comes, he must kick the door. Distracted, Henry doesn't see Neal return until it's too late and hastily begins kicking the door. Neal figures out something is up and bursts into the room. Emma confesses she believes Tamara is the "her" August spoke of. Despite how far-fetched the situation sounds, Neal allows Emma to look under the floorboards. She finds nothing incriminating and abruptly leaves with Henry. While dining on ice cream in the apartment, Henry affirms that he believes Emma is right about Tamara. ("The Evil Queen")

A day later, Regina has mysteriously disappeared, and Henry, Emma, David and Mary Margaret inspect the mayoral office with the intent of confronting her about the missing magic beans, but she is not there. Henry is horrified at the prospect his adoptive mother might be in real danger, though Emma assures him they will find her. When they discover the beans Regina stole from the fields are also gone, and somebody used an override code to break into the office, Henry becomes convinced something bad did happen to Regina. Instinctively, Emma knows this must is Tamara's doing and heads back to the bed and breakfast to look into it. ("Second Star to the Right")

In the park, Granny watches over Henry playing on a swing while his family is away looking for Regina. At a distance, Mr. Gold schemes to keep the seer's prophecy from coming true by causing the boy's demise. He begins loosening the swing rope little by little with the hopes Henry will fall onto a nearby sharp rock. While this occurs, Henry remains unaware of the danger he is in. Mr. Gold moves to deliver the finishing magic blow to the rope material, but the sound of a car door slamming startles him into stopping. From a parked truck, David, Emma and Mary Margaret make their way on foot to pick up Henry. Surprised to see Mr. Gold, David and Mary Margaret prepare to tell him about Neal while Emma is urged on to speak with Henry. Emma approaches and pulls Henry to a nearby bench to break the terrible news about Neal's death to him.

Heartbroken over his father's passing, Henry returns with the trio to the apartment, where he has a warm reunion with a fully recovered Regina. A sudden quake erupts, and according to Regina, this means the trigger is activated. A verbal battle breaks out between Henry's two mothers, which he douses by telling them the only way to save the town is for them to work together. Henry takes to mean they are all going to die but is reminded by her that he was born in this world and won't be affected. This gives him an even more dreadful conclusion of being all alone. Emma promises she won't let that happen and orders Regina to make the trigger stop, but there is no way of doing that. Tension fills the air when Emma blames Regina for the current dilemma, to which Henry intervenes. Just then, Hook strolls in; earning himself a punch from David's fist. Despite an undeniable wish for vengeance, Hook has decided to align himself away from Greg and Tamara since realizing revenge is not worthy if he is going to lose his own life in the process. Regina makes it clear there is no terminating the trigger and the best she can do is to slow it down. David suggests the delay will give them more time to steal back the remaining beans from Greg and Tamara, use them to open portals, and traveling to the Enchanted Forest. Emma points out no one knows their current whereabouts, though Hook states that he does. To keep the pirate from betraying them, David goes along with him. A plan assembles for everyone else in the group; Mary Margaret will take Henry to gather up the rest of the townspeople while Emma brings Regina to the mines to stall the trigger's power. Before Henry leaves, Regina makes her last amends by apologizing to him for not being a better person and mother. She reaffirms her love for him, which he reciprocates back.

Having retrieved at least one magic bean, David and Hook return to the diner where some of the townspeople are grouped. Henry questions where his adoptive mother is and Emma tells him that she is in the mines slowing down the trigger, but will not be able to make it out. This angers Henry; comparing this event to the Wraith attack and how are things different this time around. This gives Mary Margaret an idea—they can send the trigger through a portal just like they did with the Wraith. Emma doesn't believe anyone is willing to go through with such a risky plan, but Archie persuades her it's the right thing to do. He talks about in the past when Mary Margaret was Snow White and David was Prince Charming, who led all of them without fail, and asks who is inclined to allow them to do it again, to which everyone follows suit in agreement. Mary Margaret knows she and David haven't had a lot of time to be parents, but asks for a chance to be trusted, though Emma is concerned Henry will be alone and grow up just like herself. Another rumble tremors through town, which pushes Emma to think they'd all be better off making it out now by using the bean, but Mary Margaret's lingering guilt about Cora forces a moral obligation to do otherwise. She pleads to Emma that Cora's death was the easy way out as well as a mistake, and this time around they must take the hard path to build a future which is not at the cost of Regina's blood. Emma finally agrees, but as David tosses her the bean container, Hook snatches it in mid-air. She makes him give it back, which he pretends to do by handing back the box and makes off with the actual bean.

Down in the mines, Henry and his family meet up with Regina, and he announces it is their turn to be heroes. David, Henry and Mary Margaret stand back as Emma prepares to take out the bean, but discovers Hook tricked them. Regina's frustration in not being able to contain the trigger causes Emma to realize she does not have enough strength on her own, but perhaps together they do. Combining their magic powers, an impact blow in deactivating the trigger causes everyone present to be thrown back onto the ground. After the danger is over, David expresses relief since they listened to Henry about not leaving Regina behind. However, Henry is nowhere to be seen. They find his backpack on the ground with torn straps. Emma deducts he has been kidnapped.

Outside, Greg and Tamara drag Henry towards the harbor. Tamara ensures Henry they will not hurt him, to which he replies they will hurt everyone he loves, and just tried to destroy his hometown. In turn, she counters back it was never their true intention. Greg reveals they wanted to put an end to magic but found something much more valuable—him. Though Henry's family rush to save to stop them, they are not fast enough. The duo uses their last magic bean to open a portal to Neverland; prompting the twosome to force Henry to jump in with them. ("And Straight On 'Til Morning")

Landing on the shores of Neverland's island, Henry attempts to make a hasty escape, but he is swiftly caught by a water-soaked Greg. The boy threatens that both his mothers will come to rescue him, but Greg and Tamara reveal it's unlikely since Neverland is a far more dangerous place than the Enchanted Forest. When Tamara is unable to contact the Home Office in her walkie-talkie, Greg opens the device, discovering the battery compartment is filled with sand. This leads Henry to question them about just how little they know about their employers, and these doubts become a reality after the trio are met by the Lost Boys, who reveal they are the Home Office. Learning the Lost Boys' true purpose is to preserve magic rather than destroy it, Greg then refuses to hand over Henry to them, with Tamara siding with him. The lead Lost Boy, Felix, has the Shadow dispose of Greg, as the other Lost Boys pursue Henry, who flees, while Tamara is shot by an arrow. In the jungle, Henry is pulled to safety by an ex-Lost Boy, and they later leave the area together. During their travels, the older boy tells Henry about stealing pixie dust from Peter Pan, in the hopes of escaping the island, but the dust doesn't work. Henry shares his continued faith that his family will be arriving soon for him, but the latter is doubtful of his claims. With the Lost Boys still trailing them, the pair decides to go to the Echo Caves, the one place where they can't be tracked. As they near the caves, Henry and his companion are forced to change directions when their pursuers are closing in them. Ending up at a cliff, the older boy considers surrendering the pixie dust to the Lost Boys so he and Henry won't be killed by them. Instead, Henry uses his power of belief to make the pixie dust work, allowing him and his friend to escape the cliff by flying away to a safe location. After landing, Henry discovers the boy is actually Pan, and he had set up the situation to test Henry's belief. Pulling out a blade, Pan calls forth the other Lost Boys to surround and close in on a dumbfounded Henry. ("The Heart of the Truest Believer")

Henry awakens under a tree after being unconscious for a period of time, where Pan encourages him to try his hand at target practice. Gathered together with the other Lost Boys, Henry is given a crossbow to shoot a placed apple on Felix’s head. As Pan and the Lost Boy chant for him to shoot, Tentatively, Henry readies his aim, but at the last moment, he looses the shaft onto Pan, who catches the arrow with ease. Instead of being angry, Pan is pleased by Henry, and he takes the boy aside to explain the benefits of Neverland as a place no one ever tells anyone what to do. Henry doesn't think he belongs on the island, but Pan states they have all been waiting for him for a very long time. He exemplifies that Neverland runs on the power of belief, but Henry’s world is no longer full of magic because the people there have stopped believing. Pan calls Henry the savior of magic and believes it was not a coincidence that a child was born from the greatest of light and dark. Then, he takes out a piece of rolled up paper and hands it to Henry, guaranteeing that once it’s opened, Henry will understand why he believes him to be the hero that magic so desperately needs. After accepting the paper, Henry tosses it to the ground, stating he doesn't believe him. Smirking, Pan conveys Henry’s resemblance to his father. Reflecting on what Pan told him, Henry picks up the paper scroll and unrolls it. In shock, he sees a parchment drawing of himself. ("Quite a Common Fairy")

During the night, the Lost Boys rejoice with music and dance, but Henry refuses to participate, believing there is nothing to actually celebrate. Pan tries to encourage him with a pipe song, but Henry is unable to hear the music because the pipe only draws in boys who feel unloved and lost. That same evening, Mr. Gold puts all the boys, including Henry, to sleep, so he and Neal can take Pan by surprise. By stunning Pan with squid ink, they grab Henry, but not before Pan reveals the truth about Mr. Gold and the prophecy that involves Henry. Once they are away from Pan, Neal questions his father about it, learning that Mr. Gold believes in a prophecy that states a young boy, who he believes is Henry, will be his undoing and wants to kill him to keep it from coming true. Mr. Gold insists this was before he discovered Henry is his grandson, and that he's changed now. Neal, too afraid his father will go back on his word, paralyzes Mr. Gold and leaves with a still sleeping Henry, but he is quickly intercepted by Pan and the Lost Boys. As Henry groggily begins waking up, Neal is dragged away by the Lost Boys to an unknown location, as he desperately shouts his promise to come back for him. Fully reaching consciousness in Pan's camp, Henry recalls hearing his father call for him, but he deducts it was just a dream since, as far as he knows, Neal is already dead. Pan gives condolences for Henry's loss, remarking that it makes sense to dream about the things he lost and hopes for such as his father being alive or his mother coming to rescue him, but eventually, he'll find new things to dream about that will start to come true. Pan reveals Neverland used to be a place where new dreams are born and believes Henry can bring that magic back. After offering himself and the Lost Boys as Henry's new family, Pan plays a pipe song in his honor, and this time, Henry hears the music and joins the crowd of dancing Lost Boys. ("Nasty Habits")

At camp, Henry watches some of the Lost Boys have a rope climbing competition, when Devin pokes him with a wooden sword. Unimpressed with the so-called savior of Neverland, Devin attacks him with his weapon, as Henry dodges the hit. As the whole camp stops to watch the altercation, Henry picks up a stick to defend himself against Devin's incoming sword jabs. Pan, who has been observing the fight, beckons Henry to use his power of belief to turn the stick into a sword. After Henry's stick turns into a sword, he and Devin resume their duel. Devin struggles to keep up with Henry, who slashes his weapon to bits. Henry takes things further by slashing Devin's cheek, but upon realizing what he's done, he drops the sword and apologizes. While Devin nurses his wound, Pan picks up the fallen sword and puts it back in Henry's hand, telling him that Lost Boys never have to apologize. Then, he raises Henry's arm into the air as the Lost Boys roar in praise. Henry, relishing in their approval, leaves his sword arm up in confidence. Later, when Devin nudges him again, Henry tries to deter him from starting another fight. Devin, under Regina's influence after having his heart stolen by her, says that Henry's family is in Neverland and they are coming for him. Henry doesn't believe him, so Devin gives him a compact mirror half, which has the faces of Emma, Mary Margaret, and Regina peering out. Still not convinced, he believes it to be a trick until Emma indicates their plan to save him is "Operation Cobra Rescue". With his faith in his family re-instilled, Henry spies Pan approaching, so he hastily says goodbye and hides the compact mirror by throwing it into a bush. ("Good Form")

When Pan invites to go with him to see something, Henry refuses, calling him out for knowing where his family is in Neverland. Since Henry won't say how he found this out, Pan raises the question of why his family hasn't come for him if they truly are on the island. Henry suspects Pan is purposely keeping them away, but the latter swears he has not. A doubtful Henry vows to find out what exactly Pan is hiding, and he then leaves camp. Hidden behind a tree, he overhears Pan assigning Felix to deliver supplies to the other side of the island. Curious about what could be there, Henry secretly trails Felix the entire way, not knowing that this situation itself is another one of Pan's schemes. At one point, he nearly gives himself away by stepping on a branch but hides out of sight just as the Lost Boy turns around. After Felix drops a bag of fruit and leaves it behind before continuing on, Henry grabs the bag and hears someone coughing in the distance. Finding the noise coming from a small cave, he climbs up into a house, where a sickly girl is laying in bed. He learns that her illness has forced Pan to keep everyone away and that her name is Wendy. She talks about the island's power fading away, and though she's been in Neverland for a long time, it's affecting her more than the other residents. Henry wishes to help heal her illness, but she ushers him out, not wanting him to get sick because of her. She mentions Pan is already doing everything possible, but there is not enough magic to save her. Before leaving, Henry vows to come back for her. In the jungle, he confronts Pan about not telling him about Wendy. Pan acknowledges Wendy is dying because magic on the island is slipping away and specifically didn't tell him so he wouldn't have the burden on his shoulders. Because Henry wants to help, however, Pan brings him to the shoreline, showing him the island of Skull Rock, where there is hope inside that only Henry can partake in to restore Neverland's magic. ("Dark Hollow")

Continuing with Wendy's illness charade, Pan covers her up with a blanket, reassuring Henry that by becoming the savior, he'll not only save Wendy but everyone else as well. By rowboat, the boys head out to Skull Rock, where Pan draws a line on the ground just below the stairs, which he says is a protection spell, although it's actually a barrier to keep people out. At the top level, Pan shows Henry a large hourglass with sand flowing from the top to the bottom, explaining that it displays how much magic Neverland has before all of it runs out. Suddenly, Pan senses Mr. Gold has entered the entrance barrier, and he goes to face him downstairs. Henry, blissfully unaware of what is actually going on, waits for Pan to return. To be the savior Neverland needs, Pan asks Henry to sacrifice his heart and leave behind a legacy as the greatest of all heroes. Henry asks what will happen afterward, and once again, Pan lies, stating that the price is Henry must stay on the island forever when in truth, the price is death. After Henry consents to this fate, Pan magically enchants the boy's hand, urging him to pull out his own heart. He takes it out just as Emma, Neal, and Regina rush upon the scene. Henry is stunned to see his father is alive and listens as they plead for him not to go through with the sacrifice, insisting that Pan is lying to him. Pan, however, counters by saying his family is lying to keep Henry from doing what should be done for the greater good. Henry chooses to stick with the plan and after saying farewell to them, he jams his heart into Pan's chest and collapses. ("Think Lovely Thoughts")

Aboard the Jolly Roger, Henry is resurrected after Regina steals back his heart from Pan. He apologizes to his family for making them worry but just wanted to save magic and be a hero. They all welcome Henry back warmly, and then Regina takes him down to a room below deck to tuck him into bed. Before she leaves him to rest, Regina casts a protection spell so no one can ever take out his heart again. Once he is alone, Pan manifests and threatens Henry with a knife. Pan makes another attempt to take his heart, which fails, so he begins ripping out Henry's shadow. Mr. Gold defends his grandson by opening Pandora's Box to absorb Pan into it. Just before this occurs, Pan secretly switches bodies with Henry at the last moment. Stunned, Henry starts to shout just as he, in Pan's body, is sucked into the box. ("Save Henry")

At the other side of Storybrooke's town line, Henry, stuck in Pan's body, is released out of the box while Emma points a gun at his direction and interrogates him about using the Shadow to kill someone. To prove himself as the real Henry, Emma asks him to tell her the very first time he and she connected together. Henry recalls the incident occurred at his castle playground when he understood why Emma gave him up at birth, which was to let him have the best chance in life. In relief, she and Henry hug in reconciliation. With Belle, David, Emma, Mary Margaret and Mr. Gold, they head to the vault where Regina took "Henry" for protection. Hook, Neal and Tinker Bell are already waiting there, though the vault is locked, so Mr. Gold busts the door open with magic. Inside, Regina is awakened after Pan, in Henry's body, previously knocked her out. She is shocked to learn Pan has been impersonating Henry. Regina is saddened to have fallen for Pan's tricks as she had hoped her son needed her. Henry attests that he still does need her and warmly embraces a tearful Regina. However, more trouble brews, as they discover Pan took the scroll for the Dark Curse. ("The New Neverland")

After Tinker Bell, David, Hook, and Neal fetch the Black Fairy's wand which can return Henry and Pan to their original bodies, Mr. Gold clasps a bracelet on Henry, which will absorb away Pan's magic after their bodies are switched back. Henry's spirit travels out of Pan into his body, and he rushes out of the clock tower just as his family and their allies find him. Regina passes out after taking the scroll and awakens with knowledge of the price for stopping the curse. They are accosted by Pan as he steals back the scroll and freezes them in place. The showdown ends when Mr. Gold summons the dagger and stabs Pan as well as himself with it; killing both of them. Regina reveals the price for stopping the curse is all former Enchanted Forest inhabitants will be sent back to their old world while Storybrooke will disappear out of existence. Because Henry was not born there, it would not be possible for him to be taken back, too. Urged by Regina, Emma decides to stay behind with him. At the town border, he says goodbye to his grandparents. To Regina, Henry blames himself, as everything would have never occurred had he not sought out Emma. He admits being wrong about believing Regina did not love him while she regrets casting a curse out of vengeance. When Regina calls herself a villain who can't have a happy ending, he corrects her; saying she is simply his mother. Lastly, Henry bids farewell to his father. As Emma drives out of Storybrooke with Henry, their memories are altered by Regina. ("Going Home")

Before Second Curse
Directly after driving out of Storybrooke, Henry and Emma obtain false memories of their life together. They recall a fire breaking out in Emma's apartment in Boston, which causes them to move to New York and start over. ("Going Home," "New York City Serenade")

During Second Curse

A year later, Henry becomes unhappy after noticing his mother, Emma, is lonely. Emma, on the other hand, believes Henry is upset about something at school. She tries to cheer him up by bringing him to a fountain and gives him a penny to make a wish. Unbeknownst to her, Henry wishes for a family. A few days later, Henry and Emma are having breakfast in their New York apartment. She goes to answer the door but does not recognize the man who claims to know her. After Emma shuts the door in the stranger's face, Henry asks about who was at the door, but she apparently doesn't know him. ("Going Home," "An Untold Story")

Over the course of eight months, Emma dates a man named Walsh, who Henry takes a liking to. One night, Emma is proposed to by Walsh, though she is hesitant to say yes. Henry urges Emma to accept, since Walsh has proven himself to be a kind and loving man, and won't leave her like his biological father did. In the morning, Henry sends a text to Walsh asking him to come over for dinner at eight o'clock. Later, Emma realizes that he is right and the past is keeping her from looking forward, which Henry humorously takes to mean she is going to marry Walsh. Henry mentions the pre-scheduled date she and Walsh will be having and has already decided to sleep over at a friend's house so they can have privacy. The following day, he learns Emma did not accept Walsh's marriage proposal. As Henry begins prepping to head off to school, Emma suggests that they take time off and go on a trip. A guest arrives at the apartment, who Henry recognizes as the same man that came to their door as well as the person Emma had arrested for assaulting her. She introduces him to Henry as Killian, a client from work. Shortly after, the three travel via car to the town of Storybrooke. ("New York City Serenade")

Henry spends the night at Mary Margaret's loft. In the morning, he orders a cup of hot cocoa at the diner. When the waitress, Ruby, brings him the cocoa, he is surprised that his favorite—cinnamon—is already added in, which she apparently knew from guessing. Shortly after, he is introduced to Mary Margaret and David. He learns she has a history with his mother since they were cellmates in Phoenix. Henry probes her about whether or not she knew his biological father when a woman at the counter, upon seeing him, drops a cup. The woman apologizes for startling him, which he accepts. Later, he is left with Mary Margaret after Emma leaves to take care of some business. Mary Margaret suggests bringing him to the library since he enjoys reading, and Henry agrees. At the end of the day, while playing a video game in the apartment, Emma formally introduces him to the woman from the diner, the mayor, Regina Mills, who proposes that she give him a town tour and even go for ice cream sometime. He accepts her offer, and they shake hands. ("Witch Hunt")

Henry spends the day with Regina, in which she treats him to ice cream and they take a walk in the Storybrooke Heritage Park. He is adjusting well to Storybrooke, and although used to the city life of New York, the largeness of it often makes him feel alone. Henry relates his concerns about his mother to Regina, suspecting she dragged him to Storybrooke for more than work-related business, and believes Emma is struggling since turning down Walsh's proposal. Though not knowing how things ended between the two, Henry is fond of Walsh, since he spent the holidays with him and Emma. Regina implies that he may have many relatives to spend festivities with someday; referencing herself and the rest of his family that the boy doesn't remember. ("The Tower")

During one morning, Henry notices Emma didn't come home last night. She states it is work-related and interests him in going fishing with Leroy and his friends. Henry accepts her reason but knows she is hiding something. He is suspicious of all the people she knows in town and how they seem to whisper secretively around him. Reluctantly, Emma holds back and asks for his trust until she can tell him the truth. After a day of fishing, Henry meets up with Emma, who sadly reveals her reason for coming to Storybrooke was to save his biological father from bad people, but she was too late and he died as a result. ("Quiet Minds")

Henry attends the funeral of his father, Neal, despite knowing nothing about him except that he abandoned his mother years ago. Afterward, at the diner, Killian takes him out to the docks to learn more about Neal. They go boating and then settle by a campfire where Henry is given a pamphlet to practice making various ship knots. Once the sky is dark enough, Killian shows him a sextant, which he once used to teach Neal to navigate the seas by reading the stars. This puzzles Henry seeing as Killian and his father are supposed to be around the same age. Rather than let Killian teach him to use the sextant, he wants to know something factual about Neal in order to come to terms with his death. Henry learns Hook taught his father how to sail when Neal, as a boy, had just lost his own father. Hook comforts him with the knowledge that Henry and his father aren't so different. ("It's Not Easy Being Green")

Once again, Emma is busy with other matters and leaves Henry in Hook's hands. They spend time at the diner where Hook teaches him how to cheat at a dice game. In a short time, Hook departs to attend to business, to which David and Mary Margaret entertain Henry by letting him drive a truck. The test run ends badly with Henry decimating a mailbox after crashing the vehicle into it. Even so, he has a good time and returns to the apartment in high spirits to tell Emma about his adventures. Once Regina hears of this, she initially reacts with motherly outrage, but then calmly explains that as mayor, it's her job to keep underage minors from driving. That night, Henry joins David, Emma, Mary Margaret, and Regina for a meal at the diner. ("The Jolly Roger")

One morning at the inn, Henry sees Regina and a man kissing. When Emma takes off again claiming to be following up a lead, he asks if it has to do with his biological father. Reluctantly, she affirms it but shuts down the conversation when he questions her judgment in refusing to tell him the truth. As she heads out, Henry requests her keys to access the inn room but uses another key to unlock her car. Hook stops him from leaving town on his own and claims to have a better way. Henry follows Hook to the docks where the man's friend, Smee, is going to take him out of Storybrooke on a boat. Before they can, several flying monkeys attack. Seeking cover in a warehouse, Hook orders Smee to find another boat and escape with Henry. As the boy tries to follow after Smee, he trips on a rope just as a flying monkey descends towards him. Fortunately, Emma shoots it and saves him. She asks Henry to believe in magic, and as proof, he takes the fairytale storybook. Once his hands touch the book, he regains a flurry of memories. Remembering Regina as his mother, Henry hugs her, but then Zelena begins suffocating him as a result of Hook's failure to abide by her orders to take away Emma's magic. With Regina knocked out by Zelena, Emma magically scalds the witch; forcing her to let go of Henry. In the aftermath, Henry checks up on Regina, who promises to never leave him again. She plants a kiss on his forehead; triggering the effects of true love's kiss and breaking the new curse. Henry is introduced to Regina's boyfriend, Robin Hood, and later visits Neal's grave with Emma. ("A Curious Thing")

After Second Curse

While Mary Margaret is going into labor at the hospital, Emma creates a protective shield around the room. With Hook, she leaves to take care of Zelena while Henry stays under Regina's care. In the hospital waiting room, he looks through newspaper advertisements for apartments in the hopes of finding a new place for Emma in town. Beside him, Archie engages him in conversation. He explains to his former psychiatrist that after the baby arrives, the apartment will be too crowded. So, he intends to spend at least some of his time at Regina's house, though Emma herself will need her own space. Despite Henry's good intentions, Archie questions whether he has actually asked Emma if she wants to stay in town. Puzzled, the boy wonders why that is necessary since Storybrooke is his and Emma's home. Once Emma's magic is stripped, the protective shield around the delivery room fades as the Zelena approaches to steal the newborn for a time spell. Before she arrives, Regina ushers Henry to go with Archie and lock themselves in a closet. In the aftermath, Zelena successfully makes off with the infant, but due to Henry's belief that Regina possesses light magic, she defeats her sister and stops the time spell from being enacted. Rather than condemn her to death, Regina spares Zelena's life. With the baby returned to Mary Margaret, Henry meets his new uncle for the first time. Unseen to them, Mr. Gold later kills Zelena; accidentally triggering magic in her pendant, which activates the time spell. ("Kansas")

Finally finding the perfect apartment listing in town for them, Henry shows it to Emma, who avoids the topic and asks him to help her parents pick a name for her new baby brother. During a diner celebration welcoming his grandparents' son, Henry casually rereads the storybook tale of how Prince Charming and Snow White met. As Emma and Hook join the table, David and Mary Margaret bicker over who saved who during their first encounter. The conversation turns awkward when Hook implies Emma wishes to return to New York, especially when Regina questions her further on the subject matter. Henry tries to talk with Emma about the issue, but she responds by leaving the diner. Before Hook chases after her, Henry hands over the storybook and asks him to use it to remind Emma where she comes from. Suddenly, the boy notices something strange outside the window; a beam of light radiating to the sky. A quick investigation proves the time spell has mysteriously activated and that Zelena herself has strangely vanished. Though no one dares to go near the time portal, Emma and Hook end up going to the past where they recreate a past meeting between Prince Charming and Snow White. Traveling back to the present, Emma decides Storybrooke is home; a decision that pleases Henry. After she fills him and her parents in about her recent adventures in the past, David and Mary Margaret announce they are naming their son after a true hero—Neal. ("Snow Drifts," "There's No Place Like Home")

That same night, Henry exits the diner with David, Hook and Mary Margaret only to see a heated confrontation taking place between Robin Hood's apparently deceased wife, Marian, who Emma saved from a past timeline by bringing to the present, and a silent Regina. Not knowing Regina as anyone except the Evil Queen, Marian condemns her as a monster. Regina withdraws from the argument by walking away as does Marian. Concerned about the situation, Henry anxiously wonders if Regina will become evil again. He hopes not since she has come too far to go back to her old ways. The next morning, Henry and Emma follow behind on the street as David and Mary Margaret take their son out in his stroller. Emma talks to Henry about having no luck getting in touch with Regina through the phone. He decides to try calling his adoptive mother instead since Regina might not want to talk to Emma. While he stays behind to dial her number, David keeps him company. ("A Tale of Two Sisters")

Attempting to reach out to Regina, Henry packs a basket full of chocolate, DVDs, ice cream and red wine to cheer her up, but a raven, carrying a message from his mother, arrives. In the letter, Regina states that she would rather not see Henry as she deals with her emotions. After reading the note, a crestfallen Henry is hurt by her decision and runs away to the diner where Emma explains that it isn't that Regina doesn't want to, but she's in a lot of pain and needs space. As they are talking, the power goes out. Emma is radioed by David, who reports the entire town is caught in a blackout. Before David arrives to pick her up so they can check things out, she asks Henry if he wants to come along; even jokingly suggesting various operation names for this mission. Still depressed over Regina's rejection, Henry declines. Later, Henry returns to the apartment where the blackout ends shortly after David, Hook, and a new ally, Elsa, are warming up a weakened Emma, who is suffering from exposure to extreme cold. As he goes to make her hot cocoa, Emma draws him into a hug; apologizing for not being helpful earlier in the diner. Nonetheless, Henry is grateful she is okay; stating that he couldn't lose her too after Regina. As David promises to help Elsa find her sister and talks about how their family never gives up hope, Henry realizes he himself shouldn't stop trying with Regina. Outside her house, he shouts through the door, telling her of his intentions of coming back every day until she opens up. Clearly moved, she unlocks the door and they hug. ("White Out")

Henry, enjoying a cup of hot chocolate at the diner, is visited by Regina, who gifts him comic books. When she prods him about the storybook Author, he realizes there is more to her questions. Regina admits plans of asking the Author for her own happy ending. Pleased with the idea, Henry agrees they must change her story in the book since she is not that person anymore. He suggests they work on it as a secret mission, which leads to Regina naming the assignment "Operation Mongoose". In a panic, Robin Hood arrives to ask her for help curing Marian after she collapsed from an apparent freezing spell. Regina gains his consent to do whatever it takes to save Marian's life. As his mother requests, Henry fetches a box from the vault and brings it to her. To halt the spell effects, Regina takes out Marian's heart, storing it in the box for safekeeping, which will keep her alive until they find a cure. ("Rocky Road")

Emma finally tells Henry about her new relationship with Hook. Driving to the diner, she and Henry step out onto the street. Emma asks him if he is all right with what she told him. He admits to not liking it but wants her to be happy. Patting Emma on the back, Henry urges her to go to the diner where she intends to ask Hook out on a date. As he pores through spell ingredients in the vault, Regina voices uncertainty about being able to undo the Snow Queen's curse on Marian. Having come to this conclusion himself, Henry talks about Robin Hood's feelings for Regina and his belief that true love's kiss on Marian didn't work because of it. Despite that he believes his mother should be happy about this, Regina reasons that he's too young to understand. Later, Henry checks up on Regina as she sifts through spell books, but she is having no luck. He informs her about his plan for "Operation Mongoose" by going undercover at the pawnshop in the hopes Mr. Gold has answers about the book's Author. At the pawnshop, Henry asks for a job, and reasons that Mr. Gold is the closest relative he has since Neal is gone. Mr. Gold agrees, and he makes him an Apprentice. To start with, he instructs Henry to sweep the pawnshop floor. ("The Apprentice")

With Emma busy helping Elsa track down Anna and Regina mulling over the Snow Queen's location, Henry spends the day with Hook on a sailing run. ("Breaking Glass")

Henry gathers with Belle, David, Hook, Mary Margaret, Mr. Gold and Regina where they watch a camera recording of a young Emma and her prior foster mother, who is none other than the Snow Queen herself. While everyone believes they have exhausted all means of investigating the Snow Queen, Henry mentions her ice cream truck. Since the vehicle location is unknown, David organizes a search party to look for it. ("Family Business")

After putting on a suit for his workday at the pawnshop, Henry checks up on Regina as she flips through the storybook. He asks how things are with Robin Hood, and Regina confirms their relationship is over, but she'll be ready when her future happy ending comes around. On sweeping duty, Henry tidies the pawnshop floor twice before prompting Mr. Gold for a magic-related task. At first, Mr. Gold mysteriously states he has something that can turn an old item into a new one, which excites Henry, but his hopes are dashed upon seeing it's just a bottle of furniture polish. With trouble brewing again, Belle, David, Elsa, and Hook implore Mr. Gold to unfreeze the sheriff station entrance so they can rescue Emma from the Snow Queen. They head back to the station, also joined by Mary Margaret, as an explosion tears open the side of the building. With the Snow Queen gone, Emma shakily explains she herself caused the combustion. Fearing her powers are uncontrollable, she warns them to stay back, but David and Hook approach to help. A panicked Emma accidentally collapses a streetlight, though David pushes Hook out of the way and takes the hit instead. In the heat of the moment, Mary Margaret reacts with resentment towards Emma's magic. Only upon seeing Emma's hurt expression, Mary Margaret retracts her anger, but the latter flees via car despite that her loved ones attempt to call her back. ("The Snow Queen")

Sneaking out of the apartment, Henry approaches Emma in the woods where he tries to calm her. As he almost touches her glowing hands, Emma unintentionally throws him back with a gust. Henry is wounded with a bloody cut; further causing anxiety for Emma, who emits a blast to force him into leaving. Running to the apartment, he apologies for disappearing, but explains the state Emma is currently in. Mary Margaret then cleans up his injury. Afterward, Elsa comforts Henry about Emma's magic being tied to her emotions, which is what induced his mother's out-of-control powers. In the upstairs bedroom, Henry refuses to talk to Regina about what happened with Emma. On request, he allows her to look at the laceration, and she magically heals him. Disappointed about not having magic, Henry believes he couldn't help Emma because of this, but Regina stresses his gift is being the heart of the truest believer who brought everyone together. She assures, as Henry chimes in, that Emma is a hero and heroes always win. Later, Elsa disappears with a spell to locate Emma, who is trying to permanently strip herself of magic. Henry goes with David, Mary Margaret, and Regina to track Emma's car prints, but cannot find her. After Emma doesn't go through with the prior plan due to Elsa's persuasion, they all reunite. Emma, accepting magic as part of herself, creates fireworks. Suddenly, Henry notices Emma's left wrist has a ribbon as Elsa discovers her wrist has an identical one too, but neither knows where they came from. The ribbons begin absorbing their magic and gathering in Ingrid's ribbon; allowing her to cast the spell of shattered sight. ("Smash the Mirror")

Once Ingrid's curse is cast, Henry goes with his family to the town line where the ice wall still stands. They attempt to find a way to scale it and flee town, but the barricade is too powerful. Under Emma's directive, David, Leroy and Mary Margaret go to warn everyone about the curse while Hook heads to the dock to find escape boats. Henry, deciding to stay with Regina, reassures Emma that he will be all right. He and Regina head to the Merry Men camp where she cautions Robin Hood about the curse's effects and how they will be affected by it. Robin Hood then calls for Will to tell everyone to pack up camp. As the Merry Men scurry about, Henry goes to help them while Regina and Robin Hood continue talking. Fearful for her son's safety under the curse, Regina later brings Henry to the mayoral office. She apologizes to him for letting her feelings for Robin sidetrack her from Operation Mongoose, but he is certain they will find the storybook Author. After a heartfelt farewell, Regina magically seals Henry in the office before the curse hits. ("Fall")

Under the curse's influence, Henry rebukes Hook for being a dirty pirate and states his increasing dislike for him now that he is dating Emma. Hook breaks into the mayor's office to take Henry away, but he walks right into the boy's rigged trap and falls flat on his back. Henry then takes the opportunity to flee the office. Once the curse is lifted, due to Ingrid sacrificing herself, Henry finds both his mothers and reunites with them. ("Shattered Sight")

At the town line, Henry witnesses Elsa tear down the ice wall, however, remnants of Ingrid's magic remain and keep those who leave Storybrooke from re-entering. To get the Arendelle natives home, Emma tasks herself with locating a portal. Henry returns to the pawnshop and sees Belle packing a suitcase. Learning she is leaving for a honeymoon in New York with his grandfather, Henry informs her about the town line restraints. Although Belle was unaware of this, she assumes Mr. Gold has found a loophole around the issue. Noticing his spirits are dampened, she inquires about what's on his mind. Setting down the storybook on the counter, Henry elaborates about all the bad things that happen to Regina in it. Belle believes it won't always be so since Regina is on a good path now, which cheers Henry up. He thanks her by endearingly calling her "grandma", though Belle humorously quips that using just her name is fine. After Anna, Elsa and Kristoff return to Arendelle through a portal inside a mansion, Henry explores the building. Fiddling with a wall lamp scone, he accidentally opens a secret library room containing many blank storybooks. Amazed at the find, Henry notifies Emma and Regina at the diner and leads them to his discovery. Hearing of Operation Mongoose, Emma decides to join in the search for Regina's happy ending. ("Heroes and Villains")

Six weeks later, all remains peaceful in Storybrooke as Regina exits the diner with Henry, where he steps onto the bus for school. Mary Margaret resumes her teaching job, and during class, she asks for the word referencing the study of birds, which Henry answers correctly as ornithology. That same day, Belle gains a spell translation from an "Oxford professor", which is needed to release the nuns from the hat. Regina succeeds in performing the spell, freeing the nuns, but unknowingly unleashing the Chernabog from within the hat. While the diner is bustling with activity as the nuns are welcomed back, Henry encourages Regina to show Mother Superior one of the blank books they found in the Sorcerer's mansion. Regina explains to the head nun that she wishes for the storybook Author to rewrite her a happy ending. To this, Mother Superior clarifies the Sorcerer and Author are two different people, and only the Author can help her, but he hasn't been sighted for a long time. As for why the Author disappeared, Mother Superior has no idea, but she has heard rumors that he has left clues in his works. When Emma asks if Henry's book could count as one of the Author's works, the diner shakes as everyone hears a guttural roar from outside. Emma and her allies then take on the Chernabog, which ends when the winged demon is forced across the town line, where it ceases to exist. During the evening, Henry sits at the diner counter, using a magnifying glass to inspect a storybook page for clues, as Emma and Hook watch from a nearby table. ("Darkness on the Edge of Town")

With Regina, Henry goes to the diner for donuts. As they walk in, Cruella De Vil and Ursula tease the former Queen about a time when she ripped out the hearts of people from an entire region. Regina asks Henry to get started on the book first, and after he leaves for the mayoral office, she warns the women from ever speaking about her past in front of her son again. As Henry is studying the book, his mother returns to the office with a box of frosted chocolate donuts. Regina is still upset about what Cruella and Ursula said and wonders if she can have a happy ending after all her past actions. Henry comforts her, and as he bites into a donut, some crumbs spill onto the open book. While Regina cleans the crumbs from the book, she notices the pages for the Pinocchio fairytale are different, to which Henry recalls that August put the story in the book. Although August is now Pinocchio, Regina believes he may have answers about the Author. However, the boy recalls nothing, even when Emma tries to trigger his memories by reminding him of all the things he did when he was August. Frustrated, Regina insults Pinocchio for not trying harder to remember. Henry tries to intervene, and when things get heated, he and Emma take Pinocchio out of the room. Later, Regina receives August's old bag from Marco, which Henry looks through. On one page, he finds a photo of a door with a sticky note referencing the Author. ("Unforgiven")

Henry continues to examine the photo at the pawnshop, where Belle asks about his research, and he explains the door could possibly lead to the Author. Aside from that, he hasn't found much, but she encourages him to keep at it. Before leaving, she hands him a snack. ("Enter the Dragon")

After Henry's family rescue August, who has since been restored to his former self, from the villains, they bring him to recuperate at the apartment. There, Henry keeps watch over him and calls over Emma and Regina when he wakes up. Regina, spying on the villains undercover, asks August about the door illustration and where it could be. While Mr. Gold and his allies believe the door is in another physical location, August reveals the door in the illustration itself is the actual entrance to where the Author is trapped. ("Poor Unfortunate Soul")

At the apartment, while Emma and Regina are debating how they should proceed since finding out about the door illustration, Henry alerts them to August's depleting condition. They take him to the nunnery, where Mother Superior oversees his well-being. Afterward, Henry and his two mothers discuss deceiving the villains. Emma conjures a forgery of the door page, but Regina settles for taking a photo of the real one. As the remaining duo return home, Hook reveals Ursula told him the villains want to darken Emma's heart so she will no longer be a savior by using the Author to do it. Later, Henry is alarmed when Emma and Hook mysteriously fall asleep, which is due to Maleficent's sleeping spell, although he is immune from previously being under a sleeping curse. Believing he is in danger, Henry flees to the mansion with the storybook. Once there, he phones David and Mary Margaret, who convinces him to stay there until they arrive. While hiding, Henry notices a light coming through the keyhole of the door illustration that extends towards a table drawer. Pulling it open, he finds a key to the door just as Regina, Cruella, and Maleficent arrive asking for the door page. Under pressure from Regina, Henry forfeits it, but he gives her the fake copy instead of the real one. When his grandparents arrive, he tells them about discovering the key. With plans to destroy the door page to keep their dark secret hidden, David and Mary Margaret force him to hand it as well as the key to them. After Henry leaves, Mary Margaret is overcome with guilt for lying to Emma, but now Henry, too. ("Best Laid Plans")

When the Author ends up loose in town, Henry joins Emma, her parents and Hook as they search the woods, but they do not find him. ("Heart of Gold")

Stepping off the school bus, Henry sees Pongo waiting for him on the street, but when he approaches, the dog runs off. He follows Pongo into an alley, where Cruella menaces him to get in her car. Taking him to someplace south of the Toll Bridge, Cruella sends a video message with Henry in it to Emma and Regina, telling them to kill the Author or she will kill their son. Henry is then tied up, while his captor passes time by playing a mobile game, as he uses a piece of glass to free himself. He attempts to run, but Pongo corners him at a cliff before Cruella comes to fetch him. At Emma's appearance, Cruella pulls Henry to the cliff edge, aiming a gun at his chest. Meanwhile, David and Mary Margaret discover from the Author that Cruella is actually powerless and cannot kill anyone. They rush off to alert Emma but are unable to reach her in time, before she magically blasts Cruella, who falls off the cliff to her death. ("Sympathy for the De Vil")

In the aftermath, Henry joins his family at the diner as Emma considers going after Mr. Gold to make him pay for setting her up. Maleficent interrupts the conversation, asking for an alliance if Emma can locate her daughter Lilith. Discovering Lilith is her childhood friend Lily, she makes plans to leave town with Regina to find her. Before going, Emma hugs Henry goodbye and getting advice from Hook. Mary Margaret attempts to talk to Emma, who brushes her off and tells her to take care of Henry. ("Lily")

On Emma and Regina's return to town, Henry goes with his grandparents to welcome them back. After hugging her son, Emma reunites with Hook, but she continues to avoid her parents, before introducing Maleficent to Lily. ("Mother")

Hoping to stop Isaac from rewriting happy endings, Henry, his grandparents and Hook look for the door illustration at the apartment to retrap the Author in the book. However, Isaac changes everyone's stories, causing all of them to disappear into another book. ("Operation Mongoose Part 1")

During Alternate Reality
Because Henry wasn't born in a magical realm, he is left unaltered by Isaac's rewrite and finds himself in a completely deserted Storybrooke. After leaving town and seeing Isaac's book, Heroes and Villains. he tracks down the Author and learns from him that everyone is in another storybook, except for Emma, apparently because Isaac didn't write a savior into the new story. Since he broke a taboo and wrote his own happy ending, Isaac cannot use the quill anymore, and he taunts Henry about his inability to be a hero, to which the boy uses the door illustration key on the Heroes and Villains storybook. Both are sucked into the story, where Isaac knocks out Henry and ties him up, before telling him that all will be permanent once the bells chime at sunset, which Henry realizes if he disrupts, the new ending will destroy the book. To ensure things are unchanged, Isaac leaves Henry to be killed by an ogre, but the Light One, Rumplestiltskin, saves him. Using Isaac's book, Henry locates Regina and attempts to convince her she can restore everything by giving true love's kiss to Robin Hood, whose wedding to Zelena they must stop before the bells ring. By chance, Regina tells him about Snow White locking away a savior, who Henry suspects is Emma. Henry, after besting Black Beard, teams up with Hook on the Jolly Roger to rescue Emma from a tower. To Henry's surprise, his mother has retained her memories, but she was locked up and stripped of her magic to ensure Isaac's story stays on course. Shortly after, Hook sacrifices his life to stop Snow White so Henry and Emma can regroup with Regina. The trio head for Robin Hood's wedding, where Emma duels with a meddling Rumplestiltskin, as Regina hurries to the church. When Emma is defeated, Henry stands in her place for Rumplestiltskin to kill him, but Regina takes the blow instead. Soon, the bells chime, signaling the end, though Henry unexpectedly harnesses the quill's power as the next Author. Using Regina's blood, he undoes Isaac's story and reverts everything to normal. ("Operation Mongoose Part 1," "Operation Mongoose Part 2")

Before Third Curse

Although Henry is tempted to use the quill to revive Neal, the Apprentice consoles him, telling him that bringing back his father is beyond his ability, as he died in the real world. Though Henry rationalizes that Hook died and was resurrected, the Apprentice explains that his death happened in Heroes and Villains, a work of fiction, while the Once Upon a Time book contains stories of actual events that occurred in real life and thus cannot be altered. He then encourages Henry to write down the stories of the fallen to honor their memories. Realizing that the power to change reality is too much for anyone to have, Henry snaps the quill in half. During a celebratory diner party, Henry sits with Regina in a booth as they look through stories in the original storybook. With Mr. Gold's near demise, the Apprentice absorbs the darkness in his heart and traps it in the hat, however, it escapes and begins infiltrating Regina. To save her, Emma allows the darkness into her body, causing her to become the new Dark One. ("Operation Mongoose Part 2")

After Emma has fled to another realm, Henry comes upon Regina, Mary Margaret, David, Hook, and Robin reeling from what just happened. They learn from the Apprentice that Emma has gone to the Enchanted Forest, and to reach her, someone with both light and dark essence must wield his wand to cross realms. Regina is unable to activate the wand's power, and she is unwilling to let Zelena try, fearing what her sister will do. With no other options, Hook finds Henry in the diner and asks him to use the quill to get rid of Emma's darkness, but the boy admits he broke the quill, believing it was too much power for anyone to have. Hook wants to break Zelena out of her cell so she can harness the wand, and Henry agrees to help. In the psychiatric ward, Henry comes in and purposely spills his drink on Nurse Ratched's uniform. While she is distracted, Hook sneaks into Zelena's cell. However, Zelena outsmarts Hook and disappears, leaving Hook and Henry to tell Regina the truth. Desiring the wand so she can return to Oz and live happily with her unborn child, Zelena holds Robin hostage, until Regina forfeits the wand to her. As Henry and the others look on, Zelena creates a cyclone and is then weakened by the magic drain, giving Regina the chance to reclasp the magic absorbing bracelet on her sister. Seeking shelter in the diner, Henry keeps an eye on Roland as Regina redirects the cyclone to Emma. ("The Dark Swan")

The diner is whisked to the Enchanted Forest, in time for Henry and his family to stop Emma from crushing Merida's heart, before King Arthur and his knights arrive, proclaiming the newcomers have been prophesied to reunite them with Merlin. The Storybrooke natives then head for King Arthur's castle in Camelot. ("The Dark Swan")

At the castle, King Arthur introduces the group to his Queen, Guinevere, and he announces there will be a ball held in their honor. That night, Henry stands on the sidelines as the festivities are going on. He notices a girl his age, and with David's encouragement, he approaches to give her a drink. She expresses boredom about the ball, which is a regular occurrence in Camelot. To lighten the mood, Henry pulls out a music player device, explaining that he got it from the savior as a gift after he saved his people from an alternate reality. She is amazed at this, asking if he is a knight, but he proudly defines himself as a writer instead. Henry hands her one of the device's earbuds and puts the other pair in his ear, and after she copies this action, he presses a switch on the device to play a song. As the song goes on, she introduces herself as Violet, and he offers her his name as well before they shake hands. ("The Price")

During one night, David is knighted by Arthur and bestowed the Siege Perilous seat the Round Table, while Henry and the others are present to witness the ceremony. ("Siege Perilous")

After becoming friends, Violet brings Henry to visit her family's stables. As Emma's condition worsens from being the Dark One, Henry takes her and Hook to the stables as a place to recuperate. Once they are there, he tells them about Violet, insisting they are just friends and nothing serious is going on. When Violet hears him from the outside, Henry ushers Emma and Hook to hide, just before the girl walks in and asks what he's doing at the stables. Scrambling for an answer, Henry asks if she would be interested in showing him how to ride. She cheerfully agrees and then leads him outside to her horse Nicodemus. ("The Broken Kingdom")

Later, while Violet is brushing Nicodemus' coat, Henry asks her about how she acquired her horse. She relates that he was a gift from her mother, who passed away shortly after she got Nicodemus. Having experienced the loss of a parent too, Henry recalls having little time to know his father, and that there is a lot he didn't get to tell him before his death. After a quiet moment, Violet leaves to prepare Nicodemus' saddle. While alone, Henry tries wielding a sword, making a few clumsy waves, before tumbling to the ground. Violet's father, Sir Hank Morgan, arrives and questions Henry's lack of sword and riding skills. When the boy admits he's a writer, Morgan sizes him up, suggesting that Henry wouldn't be able to protect Violet from ogres with a pen. Furthermore, Morgan believes his daughter deserves to be with someone who is both a knight and a hero, and he then tells Henry to leave. Hoping to be good enough for Violet, Henry starts practicing with a sword, when Emma and Regina discover what he is doing. They are against him changing himself into someone he's not and persuade him to win Violet over with his natural charm instead. With this advice in mind, Henry leaves a note for Violet, asking her to meet him in the diner for a surprise. Unknown to him, Emma steals Violet's heart, telling her to reject Henry, because she needs a tear from his broken heart to free Merlin. That night, Henry treats Violet to a candlelight dinner, but she ends things, stating that she considers him a friend and nothing more. Unknown to Henry, Violet has broken his heart not because she does not reciprocate his feelings for her, but because Emma took Violet's heart and forced her into it as she needs a tear from a broken heart to free Merlin. A crushed Henry goes to his mothers for consolation, where Regina takes one of his tears, which activates a potion that Emma combined with her Dark One powers to release Merlin from his tree form. ("Dreamcatcher")

In the diner, Henry waits with Granny for everyone else to return from their quests to get the Promethean flame and Excalibur. Only Emma returns, and she finds out from Henry that no one else has come back yet. Believing something is wrong, she calls for Granny to lock up the diner. Granny then throws Henry the keys to lock up the front door, but as the key soars through the air, it magically freezes, as do Henry and Granny, because of Merlin's magic. The sorcerer, now tethered to Excalibur and forced to obey Arthur, warns Emma that she must give the flame to Arthur or her family and friends will die. After the freezing spell wears off, Henry finds Emma outside, attempting to ignite the flame with little success. Emma fears the darkness within her is right, and that she cannot light the flame because she doesn't want to let go of her dark magic. To help her see past it, Henry hands her a newspaper ad, where Hook previously circled an apartment that he wants to move into with Emma. From this, Emma realizes she can have a future without darkness, which inspires her to use her dark magic one last time to free her family and friends from Arthur. After saving them and lighting the flame, Emma begins combining Excalibur with the dagger, while Henry and the others are present. However, when Hook collapses from a cut he previously sustained from Excalibur that no magic can heal, a desperate Emma teleports away with him and later makes Hook into a Dark One to save his life. ("Birth")

Despite Emma's efforts to turn Hook away from the darkness, he kills Merlin to enact another curse to return everyone to Storybrooke so he can fulfill his centuries-old grudge against Mr. Gold. In the hopes of returning him to the man he used to be, Emma absorbs Hook's memories from the last six weeks into a dreamcatcher, and she does the same with Henry and everyone else, to ensure no one remembers Hook becoming a Dark One, before adding the dreamcatcher to the curse brew, creating a full memory wipe. Soon, the curse spreads and sends them all back to Storybrooke. ("Broken Heart")

After Third Curse

Upon arrival to Storybrooke, everyone in the diner crashes to the floor from the impact of the building dropping onto the ground, and as they get up, the group realize they are still in Camelot attire, and the last thing anyone recalls is entering King Arthur's castle. Emma, in order to keep Hook's secret under wraps, enters and professes that she will punish them for what they did to her. ("The Dark Swan," "The Price," "Broken Heart")

The next day, at the dock, Henry summons Emma, who swiftly answers his call by magically appearing. Unchanged in her affection for him, she warmly greets him and moves to touch his hand, but he pulls away before she can. Recalling her resentment from last night, Henry apologizes for failing her, but she persuades him that she meant everyone except him. Regina approaches, vehemently telling Emma to get away from her son, while Emma coolly wonders if Regina is afraid Henry will discover the truth about what happened in Camelot. Regina questions her about the memory wipe, and Emma admits she cast the curse, which is unbreakable since there's no savior now. Henry encourages Regina to try, but Emma believes they can't break the curse because she's no longer on their side and because Regina doesn't have it in her to be a savior. Before Regina and Henry leave together, Emma cautions that there is a problem in town that only a savior can solve. This problem turns out to be a fury which kidnaps Robin Hood as Regina's unpaid price of magic from six weeks ago. After Regina and her allies defeat the fury, the townspeople and new Camelot visitors have a quiet evening in the diner, where Henry spots Violet looking at the jukebox. He shows her how it works by putting money in it and choosing the song "Only You". When the song starts playing, Violet somehow senses the song is familiar although neither she nor Henry recalling it's the same song they listened to at the Camelot ball. As it happened six weeks ago, Violet introduces herself to him, and Henry gives her his name before they shake hands. ("The Price")

At the sheriff's station, Henry is present while his family, Arthur and Guinevere are trying to figure out how a prisoner they left in a cell has disappeared without a trace. The boy, having no part in the conversation, distractedly texts Violet on his phone. Prompted by Guinevere's notion that the Camelot folk need their spirits lifted, Henry suggests they have a dance, to which David jokes that it must be an excuse for him to ask his girlfriend out. Regina immediately expresses concern about this "girlfriend" of his and continues to ask him about her later, but Henry insists he and Violet are just friends. Finding Violet in town, Henry learns her horse Nicodemus is missing, and because of this, she is not in the mood to attend the upcoming town party, so he promises to help find him. Henry teams up with Emma in a Operation Cobra mission to track down Nicodemus; giving Regina and her allies time to sneak into Emma's house to search for a missing Mr. Gold. Since Nicodemus's favorite treat is pumpkin, Emma takes Henry to a pumpkin market, Peter Peter's, where they find the horse. With some patience from Henry, Nicodemus calms down, allowing the boy to grab hold of the horse's reins. During the party, Henry surprises a downtrodden Violet with her horse, causing her to brighten up immediately. Violet's father, Sir Hank Morgan, praises his efforts, believing he has the potential to be a knight one day. After Morgan leaves to bring Nicodemus to the stables, Violet thanks Henry and kisses him on the cheek. Once the bash is over for the night, Henry returns home, walking in on Regina and Robin viewing Violet's memories in a dreamcatcher they stole from Emma. In it, all three see Emma take Violet's heart, asking the girl to break Henry's heart, so she can obtain a tear from a broken heart to free Merlin. Later, Emma turns up on Regina's doorstep to see Henry, but Regina refuses to allow her in. After Regina slams the door in her face, Emma walks away, stopping to peer up at the second floor, where Henry looks back at her before he closes the curtains. ("Dreamcatcher")

After Arthur attempts to sabotage the heroes' attempt to communicate with Merlin, Henry is called in as a backup to enact a spell with the Crimson Crown, as only someone chosen by the sorcerer can use it. Regina is concerned he may not be up for the task, but Henry asserts that the person who ripped out Violet's heart is not his mother, though he believes Emma is still somewhere in there and he'll do whatever it takes to get her back. Once Henry tosses the Crimson Crown into the spell brew, a hologram of Merlin appears. Rather than direct communication, it is only a prerecorded message from Merlin, who ominously speaks of things becoming worse, and their only hope of defeating the Dark One is to find Nimue. ("The Bear and the Bow")

When Hook discovers the truth about himself, Emma finally seeks her family and friends' help to stop him from his goal, but she doesn't recall what that is because Hook stole part of her memories. At Regina's house, Henry comes downstairs as Emma is in the midst of trying to convince her allies to take off the cuff that is restricting her from using magic and helping them. None of them trust her enough to remove the cuff, which Henry agrees with, seeing as Emma has already lied to everyone many times and that makes her untrustworthy. Having lost faith in her, he recalls that, while Emma changed into a better person when they first met, she always reverts to dealing with issues herself and shutting people out. Henry feels betrayed because he trusted her and they were once a team, but now, she only cares about regaining her dark magic so she can once again work alone to fix things. Before leaving to go upstairs, Henry coldly remarks that he knows what she's capable of with dark magic. Later, he joins his family at the library to research information about Nimue when Emma comes to him and asks for his help to locate the dreamcatchers Hook took. With the mission dubbed "Operation Cobra Part Two" by Emma, Henry goes to the pawnshop with her, where he uses dreamcatcher-making materials to create a locator spell. While there, he secretly pockets squid ink for deactivating Emma's cuff. They find the dreamcatchers in the clock tower with the locator spell, which are blocked by Hook's protection spell, Henry uses the ink to remove Emma's cuff because she sought his help for the mission instead of doing things alone. Now freed of the cuff, Emma promises to make it up to him, while he cheekily says she can start by saving the day. After obtaining the dreamcatchers, Henry and the others gather in the mayor's office, each holding their dreamcatchers, as Emma restores their lost memories. ("Broken Heart")

Learning Hook has unleashed the previous Dark Ones from the Underworld, Henry goes with Emma to the pawnshop in search of him, while everyone else splits up to cover more ground. Once Emma goes into the shop, Henry is confronted outside by Nimue. Although he calls for Emma's help, she is unable to do anything, as Nimue walks through Henry's body, leaving him shaken but unharmed. After everyone else has had similar experiences with the other Dark Ones, they soon discover their wrists are branded with the mark of Charon, because the Dark Ones can only exist if living souls take their places in the Underworld. With little time until Charon arrives to take them away, Henry joins his grandparents at the diner to spend his last hours surrounded by family. Mary Margaret invites Emma to come too, but instead, Emma sneaks in to leave a farewell note to them, which explains her plans to sacrifice herself to eliminate the Dark Ones for good. Upon finding the note, they prepare to track down Emma, but Nimue takes them to the lake, where Charon is set to appear. In the end, Hook saves everyone by absorbing all the darkness and having Emma kill him. With Mr. Gold's encouragement, Belle plans to leave town to see the world, but when Henry reveals what happened to him and the others earlier, she returns to Mr. Gold, realizing he was selflessly trying to keep her safe from harm. After Emma finds out Mr. Gold used Hook's sacrifice to regain his Dark One powers, she forces him to reopen the portal to the Underworld so Hook can be rescued. As Charon arrives, Henry and everyone present head into the water prepared to go to the Underworld. ("Swan Song")

After coming to the Underworld, Henry splits up from the others, with each person searching different areas of the town to look for Hook. He later stops by the Underworld's inn and enters room eight, Neal's old room in Storybrooke's inn, but he doesn't find his father there. Henry regroups with Emma at the diner, where he gives the room key to her, explaining that he just wanted to let Neal know he's all right. Emma, recalling the dream in which she spoke to Neal, assures him that Neal knows. With magical ale Mr. Gold procured, Emma spills some of it over Hook's grave to make contact with him. When a bloody and beaten Hook materializes in front of Emma, Henry is startled by the gruesome injuries, causing Regina and Robin to shield him from looking any further. The boy keeps his gaze on the ground for the remaining time that Emma tries to talk to Hook, who is unresponsive to her questions. Fearing Cora will follow through with hurting Regina's father, Emma pushes Regina to do as Cora says and leave the Underworld with Henry and Robin. Instead, Regina and Henry find Cora as she is preparing to send her husband into a fiery pit. Cora teleports away after making the fire engulf Regina's father, but then, the flames dissipate and a bridge to Mount Olympus forms. Regina's father, realizing his sacrifice for Regina was his unfinished business, says farewell to his daughter. Henry speaks with his grandfather, who thanks him for being there for Regina when he couldn't. Once Regina's father ascends to Mount Olympus, the pair rejoin the others. In addition to rescuing Hook, the group discusses helping the souls in town move on from their unfinished business, which Henry dubs Operation Firebird. ("Souls of the Departed")

Continuing to look for Hook in the north woods, Henry reminds Emma that they already looked at this area and found nothing, but she insists on trying again until they find something. To get a better picture of the whole town, Regina sends Henry and Robin to the mayor's office to retrieve maps. Discovering the door has a protection spell, Robin pulls aside the hallway sofa and tears off a vent cover, which has a crawl space passageway leading to the office. Henry decides to go in Robin's stead, and when he reaches the office, Cruella is already waiting for him inside. Knowing she is likely destined to go to a worse place rather than a better one, she tells him to bring her back to life with the Author's quill. Henry denies this, recalling the Apprentice said it was impossible, but Cruella confirms that he lied. She reveals one thing Henry doesn't know, that the quill is a magical, living entity, and by breaking it, he sent it to the Underworld because the quill's purpose is left unfulfilled. As such, she wants him to retrieve the quill and give her what she desires. Henry doesn't see what he gets out of it, but Cruella reasons if he brings her back to life, Emma will no longer be a murderer. After returning to Robin, Henry tells him that he didn't find anything in the office. ("Labor of Love")

To find Hook underground, Henry and the heroes plan to enter the cave Megara had escaped from. The plan falls through after Mr. Gold convinces Emma to join him for a better idea, in which he'll use the aura of a deceased person to get both of them into Hades' lair, where Hook is. Sometime later, upon returning to the apartment, Henry and his family find Hook and Emma already waiting for them. The pair report that Hades destroyed their boat, so now everyone has no way of going home. Since Regina's magic is working again, she attempts to do the heart split between Emma and Hook, except a barrier prevents her from taking out Emma's heart. Afterward, Hook shows everyone the three headstones that Hades engraved with Snow, Regina and Emma's names, to make them stay in the Underworld forever, in place of the three people they already helped move on. ("Devil's Due")

Cruella takes Henry to look for the quill, and she encourages him to sense the quill, as he should be able to since he's the Author. Spotting something in the woods, he ends up investigating the area himself and runs into the Apprentice, who tries to talk him out of reviving Cruella. The Apprentice warns him against creating new stories, and that he must only use the quill to record them. Henry denies he wants the quill to help Cruella and actually needs it for his family because he is tired of being unable to help them. The Apprentice then reveals the quill is in the Sorcerer's mansion in Underbrooke, and to gain access, he'll need to steal a key from the sheriff. Before disappearing, the elderly man expresses hopes that Henry will do the right thing and only use the quill for recording stories since his unfinished business depends on it. With his family also looking for the storybook, Henry uses the situation to his advantage, telling them the book is in the mansion, as his ticket to getting in and secretly nabbing the quill. Once Snow retrieves the key and everyone goes into the mansion, both Regina and Emma make Henry stay behind as lookout, while everyone else searches for the book. While no one is looking, he wanders deeper into the mansion, finding the quill and inkpot hidden in the inside of a lamp. After a return to the apartment, Henry disappears upstairs, refusing to talk to anyone, as he contemplates what to do with the quill. Despite not knowing what his grandson is thinking of, David encourages him into remembering that he has a family who cares about him, and they're always there if he needs someone to talk to. Taking David's advice, Henry reveals the quill to his family, admitting that he wanted it to be heroic for the wrong reasons. Now, however, he intends to use the quill for what it was meant for, recording stories, namely Hades' story. ("The Brothers Jones")

Having no recollection of how or when he writes, Henry records his first story that details Snow and David's plans to contact their son Neal in Storybrooke. When his family has a lukewarm reaction to it, as they were hoping to see Hades' story, he becomes upset at their criticism and storms upstairs. After sending a message to Neal, Snow and David are left unsure if he heard them, but then, Henry has another mysterious writing sprint, in which he records a story of baby Neal falling asleep to the sound of his parents singing a lullaby to him. Relieved over the news, David thanks his grandson, giving Henry the satisfaction of knowing his Author powers have come into good use. ("Our Decay")

As Regina works on a spell to open the library elevator, Henry and his grandparents join her there, while Emma and Hook are keeping watch on the roof. Once the spell is complete, Emma and Regina attempt to magick the elevator open, so they can gain access to Hades' lair, but the door reveals a brick wall instead. After Emma decides she wants to try burning the names off the headstones, Henry leaves for the apartment with David. ("Her Handsome Hero")

After Ruby is found in the Underworld, she is brought to the apartment, where she tells her friends about her search for Dorothy, who went missing in Oz after Zelena took her silver slippers. Snow sends David to contact their son again at the haunting booth, and Henry and Hook go with him. They find Cruella in the midst of ordering a henchman, Claude, into destroying the booth. Henry thinks she is doing this because he won't write her back to life, but Cruella reveals that she's just following Hades' orders. She agrees to allow one last phone call to David if Henry revives her, but when David refuses, she urges Claude to finish off the booth, which he does. Henry rejoins Emma, Regina, Ruby, and Snow in the graveyard, where David tells Snow about the booth's demise, and Emma urges her parents to return home to Neal. Later, Henry and the others prepare to send off David with Ruby to Oz, so David can make the trip from there back to Storybrooke. Instead, David forfeits his freedom to allow Snow to go in his stead. Once Snow reunites with her son, Henry records the story in the book with the quill, complete with a drawing of Snow with baby Neal, which he shows to David. ("Ruby Slippers")

Following Snow's departure, Hades ensures none of the other heroes, including Henry, can leave the Underworld, by creating tombstones for them. Once Regina learns of this, she relays the news to her allies. As she tells them about Zelena's romance with Hades, Henry walks into the room to catch up on what's going on. ("Sisters")

Soon after Regina lets Zelena go to Hades, the heroes are approached by the Underworld lord for help, because Mr. Gold and Peter Pan are holding Zelena for ransom. Once Emma saves Zelena, a kiss of true love between Hades and Zelena triggers a portal to Storybrooke that is set to open in a few hours. After Hades removes David, Regina, Emma, Robin and Henry's names from the tombstones, Emma's failed heart split with Hook leads her to search for ambrosia, something that can help Killian escape the Underworld. While Emma and Hook are on this mission, Henry grows restless waiting for them, as he believes Operation Firebird still needs to be fulfilled. Although the Underworld's citizens can move on freely once Hades is gone, he insists on helping those who don't know what their unfinished business is. After Zelena, the baby, and Hades leave to wait by the portal, Henry commences with Operation Firebird, as Regina, Robin and David are with him. Of the many, he helps the eighth dwarf, Stealthy, realize that his deep resentment for Bashful has been holding him back. The Blind Witch, as Cruella's accomplice, traps the foursome in the library, with Regina later realizing Hades' magic is keeping them from escaping. These suspicions about Hades are cemented further when Emma returns without Hook or the ambrosia. With Emma and Regina's combined powers, the heroes break out. Before heading to the portal, Henry leaves behind the Underworld's storybook, which has stories of people's unfinished business that he wrote. ("Firebird")

After returning to Storybrooke, Henry reunites with his grandmother, Snow, at the loft. He, Emma and David bring her up to speed on Hook's fate in the Underworld, and the danger of Hades' presence in Storybrooke. With Robin's baby in Hades' hands, the heroes work to find Hades' weakness and defeat him once and for all. At the library, Henry helps his grandparents and Merida plow through books to look up information on Hades, though nothing is found. With Hook's help from the Underworld, Emma discovers Hades can be killed with the Olympian Crystal, but instead of her finishing him off, Zelena kills Hades after he murders Robin. At Robin's funeral, after David and Snow have had their turn laying rose entwined arrows on the casket, Henry and Emma step forward to do the same. Following the funeral, Snow stays behind with Emma, while Henry and David head off to give them some time alone. ("Last Rites")

During Robin's wake, Violet approaches Henry to give her condolences. She admits her fears about never seeing Henry again after he went to the Underworld, with Henry revealing that he feared the same about her. After a tremor shakes the town and Hook reappears, Henry and the heroes investigate the clock tower, where they discover Mr. Gold has tethered Storybrooke's magic into a piece of the Olympian Crystal. As everyone leaves, Henry overhears Emma telling Regina to take a break. While Emma fears Hook's return will impact her negatively, Regina criticizes her for thinking she'll become the Evil Queen again. Eventually, Regina teleports out to find Mr. Gold herself since Emma doesn't believe in her. Emma instructs Henry to stay at her house, but instead, the boy texts Violet and asks her to meet him at the pawnshop. Upset over Emma not believing in Regina, and that magic is continuing to ruin his family, he tells Violet of his plan to destroy magic for good. After she agrees to go with him on this mission, which he names "Operation Mixtape", Henry uses the quill to steal the crystal. Before leaving town, he sends a text to both his moms about his plans. To throw his moms off, Henry plants his phone on a bus bound for Boston and then rides a bus to New York City with Violet. In New York, Henry reveals his father Neal once told him about his past research on destroying magic. He intends to finish what Neal couldn't, and from reading his father's journal, he and Violet are led to the Midtown Library's rare reading room. Henry finds storybooks that look like the one he owns, except they contain different stories, but none of them reveal how to destroy magic. Violet spots a replica of the Holy Grail, which she deems the source of all magic. Henry places the grail next to the crystal, and when the crystal begins to be absorbed into the grail, it proves magic can be destroyed. As they leave, Mr. Gold magicks them unconscious and steals the crystal. When his moms arrive, Henry convinces Emma that she was wrong for not believing in Regina, and he defends his decision to destroy magic because he doesn't want to lose either of them to magic. Regina uses Henry's blood to locate Mr. Gold, which fails because Mr. Gold has disabled magic. ("Only You")

Despite being told to wait in the library, Henry rushes off to find his moms, who left to confront Mr. Gold. After spotting a magic storm cloud above the Hotel d'Or, he and Violet reach Mr. Gold's hotel room, where Henry absorbs the crystal's magic into the grail. Only then, he learns Emma, Regina, and Mr. Gold all needed the crystal to rescue their families, as they are trapped in another realm. Henry blames Mr. Gold for the mess they are in, and storms off to sulk at a nearby fountain. Violet keeps him company until Emma stops by to talk. Emma gives him a penny to make a wish on the fountain since making wishes used to cheer him up, but Henry reminds her that only worked when he was living in New York with no memory of Storybrooke or magic. He expresses guilt over destroying magic, as he believed it would help their family, but now, he's made things worse. With the Dragon's help, Henry and the others are able to see their families in the other realm, but unable to open a portal. To find more magic, the Dragon advises that they seek magic with the power of belief. Back at the fountain, Henry persuades his family to make wishes on pennies, which creates magic in the crystal, but not enough. In order to acquire more, he rallies a whole crowd of New Yorkers into believing in magic and making wishes, causing a geyser and then a portal to appear in the fountain. When his family returns, the crowd applauds over the display, but a disappointed Henry realizes the people mistook real magic for a street act. Emma assures him that it was still worth it because, for a moment in time, he helped people to believe in magic. On return to Storybrooke, Violet tells Henry about her father's Connecticut origins, and her plans to stay in town. Before she walks off, he shares a kiss with her. After Regina releases the crystal's magic back into Storybrooke, Hyde confronts her and Henry, claiming that the town is his since Mr. Gold gave it to him in a deal. ("An Untold Story")

Later, Henry, his family, and some of the townspeople notice a flying dirigible has made its way into Storybrooke, courtesy of Hyde. He witnesses Emma and Regina combine powers to attack Hyde, but their magic fails to subdue him. Hyde, before leaving, cautions the people of Storybrooke to be wary of the people in the dirigible, whose untold stories will soon play out. After the airship has crashed, Henry, his family, and Jekyll search through the debris for materials needed for making a weapon capable of defeating Hyde. Following Hyde's capture, Henry walks in on Regina trying to use a locator spell to find a feather from Robin's arrow that Zelena lost. He points out that she won't find anything because she's using the spell to search for Robin, who is gone. Regina is miserable over Robin being obliterated, just as Hades put it, however, Henry persuades her that this isn't true because villains will say anything to hurt people. Henry believes that, while Robin's story is over, he is still out there somewhere. ("The Savior")

One morning, Henry walks with Regina to the diner, where she is set to give a speech to welcome the Untold Stories residents. He gives her the storybook and reminds her that this mission is called "Operation Mongoose: Part 2", a story in which she is the hero. After Regina's speech goes well, Henry sees a man walk in and attempts to identify him by looking through the storybook. However, the man disappears soon after, with Henry noticing that he left a note for his grandparents. Henry suggests that the stranger could be the Invisible Man or Dracula, but David and Snow discover it's from the Count of Monte Cristo. They have no idea what the Count wants, that is until Regina reveals she hired the Count to kill David and Snow in the past. Following Regina's meeting with the Count, which ends badly, Henry tries to comfort her about it, but she blames herself for the Count's unwillingness to let her help him. They find the body of Charlotte, whose cloak Regina touches without knowing it has a magic dampening spell. The pair meet the one responsible for this, the Evil Queen, who cheerfully greets Henry. During the face-off, Regina has her son stand behind her as she tries to conjure a fireball, but thanks to the spell, it fizzes out. After finding out the Queen is making the Count kill David and Snow, Regina fights him in a duel, during which she tells Henry to call Emma as backup. Henry is unable to phone Emma, however, because the Queen disabled it with her magic. With no other way to defend her friends, Regina kills the Count, a decision she grieves over as Henry insists that she had no choice. In the aftermath, Henry realizes the Count's story ended badly because they've been using the wrong method to help him. He tells David and Hook that the best way to help the Untold Stories residents is to find out why they don't want their stories told. ("A Bitter Draught")

Henry sets out to gather all the names of the Untold Stories residents as well as those they were traveling with, in order to find anyone who is missing. After writing everything down on a list, he shows the compiled information to Emma and Hook in the diner. Ashley stops by with her husband and daughter, and she tells them about wanting to offer free babysitting to the newcomers who have kids. As Ashley looks at the list, Henry notices someone new enter the diner and walks over to get her name, while Emma goes with him to help. Later in the day, Henry is getting parry lessons from Hook when Emma runs into them as she is looking for Ashley, who has gone after her stepsister Clorinda. The trio continues the search altogether, and they run into Ashley at the harbor. Upon finding out Ashley is trying to help Clorinda instead of hurt her, Henry asks why since her stepsister was wicked to her, but Ashley clarifies that she was the actual wicked one in their story. With Emma unable to recast the locator spell after Ashley escapes, the Queen suddenly shows up to antagonize them. Henry tells the Queen that she is not his mother, while she reminds him of all the times she took care of him and then gives him advice on having good posture. To prove that Ashley's story will end badly once Emma is not there to save her, the Queen teleports Emma, Henry, and Hook to a clearing in the woods. With a pep-talk from Henry and Hook, Emma recalls her knack for finding people by trying to decipher their stories. Henry then realizes the storybook can tell them how Clorinda's story was supposed to end, and this will reveal where Ashley might be. The three later show up to a pumpkin farm, where Ashley has been stabbed by Lady Tremaine while protecting Clorinda and her beau. With reassurance from Henry, Emma manages to heal Ashley. ("The Other Shoe")

In the loft, Henry joins his family to help Jasmine track down another Savior, Aladdin when Emma comes in. The Evil Queen, disguised as Archie, follows Emma in and persuades her to tell her family about her secret. Emma then reveals she's been experiencing a vision of her own death, and that it is the fate of all Saviors to be killed by a villain. As Henry and the others react in dismay and shock over this revelation, "Archie" slips out unnoticed. Jasmine, distraught over the possibility that Aladdin is already dead, seeks refuge on the loft's second floor, where Henry tries to offer support to her. The two talk about their shared experiences, in that Henry says he pushed Emma to become a Savior, while Jasmine admits did the same for Aladdin, which may ultimately lead them to their deaths. With Regina's locator spell, Emma becomes linked to Aladdin, allowing her to track him to the inside of a crypt. Jasmine discovers proof that Aladdin is dead, which dampens Emma's hopes of escaping her impending death. Emma goes off to be alone, but Henry comes to apologize for causing her current dilemma, as he blames himself for bringing her to Storybrooke all those years ago and forcing her to be the Savior. She, however, only sees the good that came out of the past, in that she was able to become his mother and found her family. During the conversation, they are approached by a stranger, who is revealed to be Aladdin. The man admits he did not intend to come out of hiding, but he couldn't keep the shears to himself after overhearing Emma and Henry's conversation. After Aladdin and Jasmine are reunited, Henry returns to the loft, where Emma declares she won't use the shears to escape her death, and she'll find another way or accept that it is her fate to die. ("Street Rats")

One morning, Henry is left with Hook after Emma leaves home to track down a missing Aladdin at Jasmine's bequest. He assures Killian that he doesn't need to keep him company, but Hook wants to spend time with him and asks the boy to show him how his webcam works. Hook then dumps Henry's breakfast, Poptarts, into the trash, and insists he can make him a more healthy meal. A fuming Henry goes to put the trash outside, where the Queen points him into investigating a toolbox inside the shed, as proof Hook does not have Emma's best interests at heart. He finds the shears inside the box and later disappears to the docks to dispose of them like Emma wanted, but Hook finds him and tries to explain why he kept the shears. Henry cuts him off and instead berates him for trying to make decisions for his mom without consulting her. The two try to run after spotting a submarine coming to the harbor, however, they are captured by some of the captain's men and forced into the vehicle. Henry blames Hook for their current situation, which wouldn't have happened if he had gotten rid of the shears when Emma asked him to. While Hook claims he kept the shears to protect Emma, Henry accuses him of trying to remove what makes her special. Realizing his actions might ruin the relationship between Emma and Henry, Hook tells him about a time he ruined a family apart, in which he killed his own father and made his younger half-brother, Liam, an orphan. Henry then realizes Hook is trying to make up for what he did to Liam by doing things differently with him. With the shears, they find a way to escape, but Hook makes him take the only diving suit left. The boy returns to beg for Hook's life as Liam is trying to kill Killian, and when Liam hesitates, Hook knocks him unconscious. When asked why he came back, Henry admits he didn't want to ruin another family, hinting at his acceptance of Hook into his and Emma's family. Deciding to believe there is another way to save Emma besides using the shears, Hook helps Henry place them in a chest before sinking it into the sea. After Liam and Nemo's reunion, Emma wants an explanation from Hook and Henry about what happened, to which Killian allows Henry leave while he tells Emma the whole truth. ("Dark Waters")

When Henry and his family find out about the Queen's intentions of destroying the town unless Snow and David forfeit their hearts to her, Mother Superior helps them track down a sapling that can defeat the Queen. However, after the sapling is destroyed by the Queen, Snow and David decide to do the inevitable to save Storybrooke. Henry witnesses the Queen rip out his grandparents' hearts, but instead of killing them as she desires, the Queen casts a sleeping curse on both heart halves. After Snow falls asleep and is hidden away by the Queen, Henry goes with his family to search for her in the woods. They witness David uncurse Snow with true love's kiss, but as she awakens, David falls under the curse's effects, making it impossible for the couple to ever truly be together again. ("Heartless")

As Henry introduces Violet to modern movies, this causes her to doubt her identity as a teenager and subsequently have trouble adjusting to school. Violet becomes distant from him, and even stands him up twice when he wants to watch John Hughes' movies with her. Although he and Violet planned to go to the fall formal dance together, Henry begins to suspect she no longer likes him and attempts to distract himself by offering to help Emma and Regina lure out the Queen. He succeeds in getting the Queen to come to the beach, where Regina teleports him away soon after so she and Emma can entrap the Queen within a mirror. Instead, the Queen imprisons the women within the mirror and disguises herself as Regina before reporting to Henry and the others that the mission was a success. After "Regina" helps her son pick out a tie for his suit, Henry meets Violet at the diner. Before he can leave for the dance, he hears something in the hallway mirror, not knowing Emma and Regina are calling him from their side of the mirror, but "Regina" draws his attention away from it. When Henry tells his mother about his problems with Violet, she encourages him to let his character shine by exuding confidence and poise. However, when she suggests that he should work on his posture, Henry realizes she is not Regina. He confides in Violet about the Regina impostor, but since the Queen is watching them nearby, Violet makes up an excuse so they can leave. Upon sending Violet to a safe location, Henry goes to the vault to attempt to communication with his moms. The Queen, with the Dragon's heart, forces the man to turn into a dragon, causing danger to Emma and Regina in the mirror world. She then gives Henry the hammer of Hephaestus, telling him to smash the Dragon's heart, if he wishes to save his family. While the Queen hopes to force her son into making a hard choice to toughen him up, Henry shatters the mirror instead as the Dragon's fire breath hits the other side of the mirror, which allows Emma and Regina to return home. The Queen accuses Regina of making her son soft, but Henry affirms he is strong because of his family, and it's something she'll never have. After missing the dance, Henry decorates the diner for Violet. The girl reveals why she's been so distant lately, and Henry persuades her into believing she doesn't need a label to define herself. They then happily waltz together in the diner as Emma and Regina watch from outside. ("I'll Be Your Mirror")

Along with Snow and Aladdin, Henry is present as Jasmine summons the genie out from the lamp, but only the genie bracelets fall out, so Aladdin willingly becomes the next genie in order to aid Jasmine with finding Agrabah. ("Changelings")

After Emma finds a sword capable of harming the Queen, she makes plans to finish her off in battle. Henry objects, out of fear she will die like in her vision, especially since the sword is the same one that eventually kills her. Emma insists she can't back down even if there's the possibility this fight may be her last, and that she needs to be the Savior. Henry, upset at her decision, retorts that she is also his mom. When David goes to face the Queen alone without telling Hook and Belle, Henry joins them to track him down. They arrive at the mayor's office, in time to stop the Queen from strangling David, with Hook forcing the Queen to retreat. Once Aladdin and Jasmine decide to use the lamp to find Agrabah, Henry bids them farewell by telling them that they will be missed, but Aladdin maintains that they will be back. He then hands Henry a scarab to give to Emma, stating that the item is a gift from one Savior to another. ("Wish You Were Here")

While Emma is fighting against Gideon in the town square, Henry runs up to see the commotion, as do David and Hook. The group is subsequently frozen by Gideon, who moves to kill Emma, but she manages to stun Gideon with a burst of magic. After Gideon escapes, Henry and the others are unfrozen, allowing them to reunite with Emma. ("Tougher Than the Rest")

That same night, Henry joins Hook, Regina, David and Emma as they have a toast in honor of Emma defeating Gideon and to celebrate their unity as a family. The next day, Henry and Emma decide to go on a canoeing trip together. Henry is in charge of bringing their life jackets, however, when he forgets them in the house shed, Emma returns home to pick them up. ("Murder Most Foul")

At the loft, Henry learns from Emma that she is now engaged since Hook proposed to her. He asks for details about how Hook did it, although Emma admits he didn't have the time to surprise her since she already said yes after finding the ring. After learning from Regina that the Queen has escaped, Henry goes to fetch the Author's quill from his room but finds the box is already empty. The Queen reveals she took it to prevent him from writing her out of existence, something Henry denies he was going to do and instead believes there is good in her just like there is bad in Regina. He notices she isn't even satisfied after getting revenge on Snow, but the Queen implies she will be once she's finished with Regina. She asks Henry to give Regina a folded up paper, actually the storybook picture of Regina and the original Robin and insists that no matter what anyone tries to tell him, she loves him. After the Queen is reformed by gaining some of Regina's lightness, Henry reconciles with her when she expresses true remorse for hurting her loved ones. He helps to write her happy ending by sending her to a place where she can have a fresh start in life. ("Page 23")

Over at Emma's house, Henry is listening to music through earbuds on his phone as Emma sits beside him packing up some of Hook's things into a chest because she believes Killian has left her for good. He notices her studying one of Hook's rings and pulls out an earbud to ask if she is all right. Regaining her composure, Emma states she is fine before answering her ringing phone. She gets up to leave, and on her way out, she asks Henry to take the chest out to the shed later. Although Henry agrees, he is too distracted by his phone to do so before Emma returns, so she does it herself. ("A Wondrous Place")

In the vault, Henry sees Regina having trouble making a concoction to break Snow and David's sleeping curse. He offers to help her with anything she needs, so she asks him to fetch some ingredients from Emma's shed. Henry grabs some paper and a pen to write down the ingredient names, starting with a tongue of newt, but then, his Author powers take over, causing his eyes to turn white as he begins scribbling out a series of strange symbols before passing out. Upon waking up, Henry expresses no knowledge of what the symbols mean and is surprised about his Author powers being triggered when he wasn't even writing with the Author's quill. He and his mother go to the psychiatric ward to get answers from Isaac, who only tells them that the trances will get worse with time and refuses to say anything else unless Regina fulfills his desire for a sports car so he can leave town. Regina manages to placate Isaac with an old truck, and as the man departs, he directs Henry to look in the storybook. Henry opens the book to the blank final chapters, which Isaac reveals is the end of the story that will occur when the Savior has her final battle. ("Mother's Little Helper")

As David provides information about the final battle that Rumplestiltskin prophecized about, Emma suggests to Henry that they go to the library to research the book of symbols. As Emma passes the book to him, her hand tremor returns, which momentarily scares her, but she reins in a semblance of calm after Henry tries to assure her that everything will be all right. Following David and Snow's failed attempt to uncurse their hearts by using Regina's antidote, Henry gathers with Emma, David, Regina, and Zelena at Emma's house. David notices pixie flower petals in the background of Snow's latest video message to him, which he believes is the key to breaking the sleeping curse. Henry and his family try to locate the flowers in Storybrooke, but it is ultimately Snow's tracking skills that reveal where the petals are blowing from. Later that night, Henry is present in the loft as Emma and Snow return with one of the flowers, but before it can be used, Hook's shadow flies in to deliver a broken wand to Emma and implies to her that Hook is in danger. With Snow's blessing, Emma uses the flower to rescue Hook from Neverland, with Henry and Regina helping both of them up from the floor after they've returned to the loft through a portal. When Hook begins proposing to Emma a second time, Regina pulls Henry away in order to give the couple some privacy. Henry later participates in Regina's plan to weaken the sleeping curse by drinking a liquid form of the curse. Once everyone has had a sip to help dilute the curse, they all temporarily fall asleep, only to awaken moments after Snow and David have already woken up. ("Awake")

Sometime later, Henry attempts to change Emma's destiny by using the Author pen to write that she wins the final battle, however, it doesn't work. He goes to his grandparents' loft to try to translate the symbols with his pen but is so focused on it that he doesn't hear David come in. David becomes concerned about Henry using the pen to change things, but the teenager demonstrates by writing "Emma wins the final battle" to prove that he couldn't even if he wanted to. Henry explains he was actually trying to use the pen to decipher the symbols because he theorized, from what Isaac told him about his Author powers trying to tell him something, that the symbols came out the way they did because he was writing with using a regular pen then. Instead, he's frustrated that even the Author pen is not revealing anything to him about the symbols and wonders what's the use of these powers if he can't help anyone. Believing his grandson needs a much-needed break, David gets him involved with planning Emma and Hook's wedding. Henry accompanies his grandparents, Emma and Hook to the diner, where Snow tries to convince them that this is the perfect place to have the ceremony. Hook suggests using the Jolly Roger as a scenic area to get married, but he promptly retracts the idea when Henry notes that it probably won't be much fun with half the guests getting seasick. David objects to using the diner because it's not big enough, so Snow shows them to the town hall as a possible venue, but when David is nitpicky about this location as well, Snow takes her husband outside to find out what is going on. After David admits he doesn't want Emma getting married with the possibility that she may die in the final battle, Henry comes out with Emma and Hook as Emma convinces her parents that she wants to wait for the right time to walk down the aisle. Later at the sheriff's office, Henry hears from Regina about Zelena's botched attempt at killing the Black Fairy. ("Where Bluebirds Fly")

After Mr. Gold defeats the Black Fairy, Henry returns to Emma's house, where Hook asks him to be his best man during the wedding and entrusts him with holding onto the rings until the ceremony tomorrow. When Emma comes downstairs, he quickly tucks the ring box into his jacket and tells Hook that he can count on him. ("The Black Fairy")

When the Black Fairy is proven to be still alive, Henry finds Emma in her sheriff's office looking over old family photos as a reminder of who she is fighting for. He notices an old tape recorder and presses it, which plays the sound of young Emma humming a melody. Emma hastily turns it off without giving her son an explanation, but she later opens up to him about the recording being a painful reminder of a time she was so alone that no one even cared enough to hear her sing. She describes how it was never about the little things she had to do by herself, but when she faced bigger things alone, she always ran away. Emma also regrets not being brave enough to keep Henry after he was born, while Henry emphasizes that she's changed since then and encourages her to believe she can still defeat the Black Fairy because she is the Savior. Emma then decides to forfeit her heart to the Black Fairy so at least if she dies, Henry will still have the rest of his family to look after him. Once Emma has left, Henry becomes frustrated when the book refuses to show him a different ending to his mother's story, causing him to fling it off the table. Only then, he sees a new page which reveals that even before Emma was born, she was never alone because her heart was imbued with her loved ones' songs. Henry rushes to the mayor's office in time to help Emma realize this in order to enable her to unlock her own song and free her family and friends. After Emma succeeds in this, Henry picks up her heart from the floor and puts it back in her chest. At the wedding, he heads up to the altar where Hook is waiting for Emma and hands the ring box to Archie before taking a seat beside Regina. Henry joins Regina and Zelena in walking down the aisle later as they sing along with Emma and Hook about a happy beginning before the celebrations are cut short by the Dark Curse bursting out of the clock tower. ("The Song in Your Heart")

During Fourth Curse

Under the Black Fairy's Dark Curse, Henry wakes up on the rooftop where Emma and Hook's wedding took place moments earlier, except he is now completely alone and has his storybook with him. He tries to gain information from Archie about what happened, but the man cautions him against speaking of things that aren't real and reminds him of where Emma is because of such delusions. Henry then visits Emma at the mental ward, where the blonde recounts being in recovery for two years ever since Henry ate the poisoned apple turnover in a foolish attempt at proving magic was real. He stops her from taking her medicine and shows her the Author symbols that tell how the final battle can be won, but Emma remains unconvinced. When Fiona, Henry's purported adoptive mother arrives, she takes away the book and shoos her "son" off to school. Before leaving, Henry implores Emma not to do whatever Fiona tells her to do. He later steals a key to Emma's wardroom from Archie's wallet and then breaks her out for Operation Cuckoo's Nest before taking her to the rooftop in an attempt to trigger her true memories. While Emma sees flashes of her own wedding, she is still unsure and just wants to go back to her old life in Boston since Fiona will likely lock her up again if she stays in Storybrooke. Henry agrees to help her by getting her car keys from Archie's office, but once he is there, he instead grabs the storybook that Fiona entrusted Archie with holding onto. Fiona confronts him about his meddling and even admits to having trouble stomping out the last speck of Emma's belief. Henry flees from her, making it to the stairs, where he proclaims that she will never win since Emma's belief is strong. Fiona then takes a different approach to her plan by pushing Henry down the stairs, causing him to be hospitalized with a broken arm, which Fiona tells Emma is because Henry fell on his own after retrieving the storybook. Henry insists to Emma that true belief comes from believing even if it cannot be seen and then pushes her to touch the book, hoping it will make her remember as it did in the past, but nothing happens after Emma touches it. Fiona continues to feign concern by suggesting to Emma that Henry will continue to hurt himself to make her believe and that she must take more drastic measures to help Henry move on. Realizing Emma means to burn the book, Henry begs her to believe in him, however, Emma has made up her mind and tells him that just because he believes in something doesn't make it real. ("The Final Battle Part 1")

Later, Fiona shows Henry the incinerated book ashes and offers assurance of her own victory by revealing Emma is not only on her way back to Boston but her belief is almost snuffed out to the point it's causing the Enchanted Forest and the people in it to fade out of existence. As Emma is packing up her, Henry makes another effort to change his mother's mind. Emma instead tells him that she is grateful to have met him but that his fairytale beliefs have landed them both in trouble and they have to go their separate ways in order to move on from it. In a final bid to remind Emma of who she used to be, Henry puts together a hand-drawn book of the heroic things she did and leaves it in her bag. After Emma's departure, he goes to pawnshop, where Mr. Gold stops him from entering the backroom and shows no remembrance of him as his grandson. Henry then goes in anyway and uncovers a table of magic bottles as proof that Mr. Gold does indeed remember everything. Mr. Gold admits he never trusted his mother and suspects her of purposely keeping Belle's actual whereabouts from him. Henry asks for his help to save their family who is trapped in the Enchanted Forest, but Mr. Gold declines. Accepting his grandfather's choice, Henry instead requests for his other grandfather's sword that he'll need against Fiona. Afterward, Henry uses one of his adoptive mother's hand mirrors to inform his family of his plans to fight his great-grandmother even if it means losing in the end. On his way to the mayoral office, Emma joins him and reveals that while she still does not remember, the person he depicted in the story is who she wants to be and thus she believes in him. ("The Final Battle Part 2")

After Fourth Curse

As Henry and Emma make their way into the hall of the mayoral office, the Dark Curse unexpectedly breaks after Mr. Gold kills the Black Fairy in his pawnshop. Gideon, having been given a final order by Fiona to kill Emma, suddenly appears and corners her, but Henry hits his uncle with a fire extinguisher, allowing Emma to escape. Emma then seals Gideon in temporarily with a barrier, and as she and Henry flee, her son assures her Gideon will stop once Mr. Gold regains his heart from the Black Fairy's possession. The two reach the town square, where Emma reunites with her parents, Hook, Regina, and Zelena, and Henry fills them in about the last command that the Black Fairy gave to Gideon. After Regina suggests to Emma to have hope of a third way to defeat Gideon without snuffing out light magic, Gideon arrives to begin the battle with Emma. Henry watches Emma put up a valiant fight against her assailant, but in the end, Emma allows herself to be stabbed by Gideon, causing a white light to protrude from her wound. After Gideon vanishes and is defeated, Henry rushes to his mother's body and unknowingly gifts her true love's kiss, which revives her. The storybook, having also been restored, is returned to Henry, who reads the last line that tells of the final battle being won. ("The Final Battle Part 2")

Sometime after peace resumes in Storybrooke, Henry walks with both of his mothers to the school bus stop, where they each take turns kissing him goodbye. He then approaches the bus, where his girlfriend Violet is waiting for him. Later one evening, Henry joins his family at Granny's for supper. ("The Final Battle Part 2")

The morning of his first day of senior year, Henry acquiesces to standing still while Regina marks his height on a wall chart. After Regina gives him a key to her car, she explains he'll need it for driving across town once he starts attending Storybrooke College, however, Henry admits he isn't sure it's the right choice for him as he might want to explore other school options. Later, Granny lends him tools to fix up the car. Regina, wanting her son to be happy, presents him with applications from other colleges. After submitting essays as part of applying to the colleges, Henry receives acceptance letters from all of them. Regina can't wait to phone Emma so they can celebrate at Granny's, but Henry remains unsatisfied because he couldn't be honest about himself in the essays and he feels he'll only continue to lose who he is if he leaves home. Henry is conflicted about what to do, while Regina encourages him to decide in his own time as only he knows himself best. As Henry is trying on his graduation outfit, the phone rings and he answers it. A man, actually his adult self who was cursed to go back in time, is triggered by the sound of young Henry's voice into recalling everything that happened prior to being cursed, including the conversation he is having with his younger self, which he once experienced in the past when he was in young Henry's position. Adult Henry introduces himself as a friend of Regina's, and young Henry assumes he is calling about the graduation party which has since been moved to Granny's. When asked about his plans after high school, young Henry admits he doesn't like lying about himself in the essays, but he is actually afraid of leaving Storybrooke. Adult Henry gives him life-changing advice by telling him that home isn't a place, but it's the people in it who will always be with him. Henry asks for the man's name, though the latter only says he's someone who believes in him. As Regina calls for her son to hurry up or they'll be late to his party, adult Henry points his younger self to one of his graduation gifts that fell behind his dresser. After hanging up, young Henry locates a box behind the dresser and opens it, finding a magic bean from Tiny. That night, Henry and Regina go home early from the party, and he tells her of his fears about letting go of his home. He uses the advice that the stranger on the phone gave him, explaining that while every change in his life terrifies him, he is confident that the people he loves will remain with him even after he has left. Regina tries to guess which college he chose, but Henry says he would rather discuss it tomorrow and then goes up to his room. In a letter Henry leaves over the fireplace for Regina to read that night, he shares with her the essay he wanted to write titled "Once Upon a Time", in which he describes how his life experiences shaped him into who he is and that his home is the magic of the people who gave him love, hope, and belief as well as the power of a family who never gives up on finding each other. Ultimately, he acknowledges his story may not seem real but as long as his experiences live inside him and he continues to believe in them, magic will always exist. ("Is This Henry Mills?")

Following his graduation from high school, Henry leaves Storybrooke to go on a celebratory trip with both of his moms. ("Leaving Storybrooke")

After filling up the storybook containing his family's happy endings and returning the book to the Sorcerer's mansion, he discovers hundreds of storybooks containing alternates fairytale stories of the people of Storybrooke. Henry learns he is not in any of the stories and realizes that he is one of a kind. This leads to his decision to find his own story, which he believes is somewhere outside of Storybrooke. ("Hyperion Heights")

On the Jolly Roger, Henry has a friendly duel with Hook. He manages to corner the pirate at swordpoint, but when he drops his guard after the match has concluded, Hook seizes the true victory by knocking Henry's sword out of his hand. Henry, upset over never being good enough, storms off to the other side of the ship to be alone. Emma is puzzled by her son's attitude, as it's not the first time she's seen him behave this way, which Hook believes is because Henry is almost grown and ready to depart on his journey. Although Emma is reluctant to let Henry go because of how much of his life she's missed already, Hook reassures her that her son will always have a way to call them through a bottled message if he ever needs their help. ("A Pirate's Life")

Henry finally decides to go to another realm to find his own story. While Emma and his grandparents are supportive of his departure from Storybrooke, a reluctant Regina still tries to convince him to try college, to no avail. After getting Regina’s blessing, Henry gets on a motorcycle and tosses the magic bean in front of him, which opens a portal. Regina worries about how he will get home since that was the last bean, however, Henry reassures her it will be an adventure to get back. He then says goodbye to his adoptive mother as he drives through into the portal. ("Hyperion Heights")

During his time in the New Enchanted Forest, Henry befriends a man named Jack. The two go on to defeat some giants together and Henry gives Jack the nickname "Jack the Giant Killer". For Henry's 19th birthday, Jack treats him to his first of many drinks at a tavern. Eventually, the pair go their separate ways. ("Chosen")

Sometime later, Henry rides his motorcycle on a road, passing Mr. Gold and Alice along the way without noticing them there. Alice regards the motorcycle as strange and wonders if the man riding it came for the upcoming royal ball. ("Beauty")

On the day he is set to return to Storybrooke, Henry's motorcycle narrowly misses a horse-drawn chariot going in the opposite direction from him. The horse, spooked by Henry’s vehicle, crashes the chariot on a log, throwing the female rider into a bed of blue hyacinths, knocking her unconscious. Henry rushes to her aid and discovers, from noticing her glass slippers, that she is Cinderella. Henry wakes Cinderella, who chastises for crashing her chariot before commenting on Henry’s weird “headless horse”. Henry explains he has limited time to get home due to the portal he came through, however, Cinderella is not interested in hearing his story and mentions she has a ball to attend. He offers her a ride on his bike, and as he is teaching her how to use it, she playfully compliments him and questions him about his knowledge of her story’s ending. Henry reveals she will lose one of her glass slippers that the prince uses to find her later, although she thinks this is unlikely because lots of women have the same foot size as her. Without Henry noticing, she pockets his dagger and playfully insists her story needs a twist. Cinderella then punches him, making him fall off the motorcycle, before speeding away on the bike. Arriving at the ball, Henry sips a drink offered to him by a servant girl. He finds Cinderella and pulls her into a dance to confront her about stealing his dagger. Henry correctly guesses that she didn’t come to fall in love with a prince, which she confirms, stating that she wants the prince dead for murdering her father. He tries to convince her to return to Storybrooke with him instead, but she insists on fulfilling her revenge. Feeling an onset of sudden dizziness, Henry collapses, only realizing moments before his vision becomes hazy that the servant girl drugged him. He awakens in a nightmarish cavern, bound by vines, and then realizes he is hallucinating the vines, while the girl reveals herself to be Alice. She admits she was sent by his grandfather Rumplestiltskin to convince him to go home, which he refuses, out of obligation to help Cinderella. After Lady Tremaine frames Cinderella for killing the prince, Henry tells her to meet at the place where they met and then helps her escape by fending off the guards. After making it to the meeting point, he is unable to find Cinderella, but before he enters the portal to return to Storybrooke, he discovers Cinderella's slipper in the grass, making him realize she purposely left it behind for him. After allowing the portal to close, he sets out to locate her while commencing his newest plan: Operation Glass Slipper. ("Hyperion Heights")

Upon being pursued by guards from the royal ball, Henry flees on horseback but is quickly cornered by them. Lady Tremaine agrees to let him go if he hands over Cinderella's glass slipper, but he declines and instead uses a bottle to call Regina, Emma, and Hook for help. After being taken into Tremaine's manor, where he is held in Cinderella's old room, Henry is left to the mercy of Tremaine's daughter Drizella, who is ordered by her mother to torture him into revealing the slipper's location and then kill him afterward. Henry makes a futile attempt at convincing Drizella to not hurt him, but before the girl can get started, Regina and Hook burst through a portal to rescue him. After a warm reunion with both of his family members, Henry notices Emma's absence, which Hook explains is because she is busy fighting a group of tiny dragons in Storybrooke. Henry believes this without question, but out of his earshot, Regina confronts Hook for lying. Hook pushes back by insisting it's what Emma wanted in order to prevent Henry from abandoning his own life in order to rush back to her. When Regina is unable to use a locator spell on the slipper, Hook decides to ask around at the port about Cinderella. While waiting for him, Regina updates Henry about how his family and friends are doing in Storybrooke, though Henry points out she has yet to talk about herself. Regina admits she misses him, and when he asks about Emma, she simply says she is fine before diverting the conversation to what Henry has been up. Henry expresses skepticism about whether he'll see Cinderella again or if she even likes him, to which the other Hook arrives to give him a goodbye note from Cinderella. Upset over the news, Henry goes outside to be alone, but on Regina's urging, Hook goes to comfort him. Henry inquiries about Emma and then grows concerned when Hook cannot give him a straight answer. Emma unexpectedly shows up to alleviate Henry's fears about her and confesses that she is pregnant. Henry is ecstatic for both his mom and Hook, however, Hook begins acting weird before running off. Much later after the conflict between the two Hooks is resolved, Emma talks to her son about possibly coming home. Henry longs to return but wants to keep looking for his story and taking a chance by helping Cinderella. Emma encourages him to keep at it until he finds his answer, and that while she will miss him every day, she wants to let him live his life as he let her all those years ago. Hook prepares to go home with Emma, but the other Hook decides to stay to help Henry on his quest. As Henry hugs Regina in farewell, he suggests she stay and accompany him as well since her story is not yet over. Regina considers it and agrees after Henry coins the mission name Operation: Next Chapter. Afterward, the trio says one last goodbye to Emma and Hook, who both disappear into the portal to go home to Storybrooke. ("A Pirate's Life")

When Regina finally gets her locator spell to find Cinderella, Henry accompanies her and Hook to a camp, where Cinderella has joined Tiana's Resistance army to end Lady Tremaine's tyranny. Cinderella looks surprised to see him, to which Henry reminds her of the slipper she left behind and how she once said she didn't believe in signs of fate. After Cinderella is introduced to both Regina and Hook, Tiana goes over the battle plans for storming Tremaine's manor with two groups of Resistance members. Cinderella volunteers to lead one of them, and Henry and Regina decide to join up with her. Henry notes Cinderella looks worried and he assures her that it will be fine since he and his family are used to taking down the bad guys. However, when she continues to be uneasy, he asks if she is all right. Cinderella brushes this off, telling him to rest up as they have a big day tomorrow. During the night, Cinderella passes a sleeping Henry on her way out of the camp to sneak into her stepmother's manor, where Tremaine forces Cinderella into take Henry's pure heart so her daughter Anastasia can be revived. Cinderella, however, cannot bring herself to hurt Henry while he is asleep and instead tries to substitute Tremaine's demand with another person's heart, only for Regina to stop her before she can. The next day, Cinderella tries to run away out of guilt for what she almost did, but Regina convinces her to stay. Just as Henry notes that Cinderella is missing, she arrives to reveal Tremaine has a trap ready for them in her manor. After Tiana cancels the battle plan, Henry checks up with Cinderella, who tells him it'll be good for them to talk. ("The Garden of Forking Paths")

While Henry is fixing his motorcycle with tools in his old Tron: Legacy lunchbox, he shows Ella a torque wrench. The pair's quiet moment is interrupted by a group of bandits, whom they fight off together. Regina walks in on the battle and readies a fireball to throw at one of the hooligans, but upon seeing that Henry can handle himself, she neutralizes the flame. After Ella rushes off to chase the remaining bandit, Henry shows his lunchbox to his mom, who fondly recalls how young he was when she got it for him. Henry mentions he and Ella are off on a mission for the Resistance once his motorcycle is fixed and invites her to come too, but she lies about being busy as she understands he doesn't need his mom all the time anymore and trusts that he can take care of himself. Following Drizella's turn towards darkness, Regina talks to her son about how she should have known better than to teach magic to the girl before reminiscing about her reasons for staying in this realm for Henry's sake but believes he no longer needs her like he used to. Henry disagrees, telling her that even now when he can fight his own battles, he still needs her. Regina echoes his sentiments, admitting how hard it was not having him around in Storybrooke, and that whatever else she is meant to do in life, she is his mother first. ("Wake Up Call")

Later in the woods, Henry has an intense swordfight with Ella as she playfully taunts him about not being able to keep up with her even though he was taught by a pirate. She then grabs his arm and jabbing him in his side as a reminder to him that the king's men won't play fair in battle either. Ella swings her sword at him, but she ends up spinning after Henry dodges her move and catches her in his arms. Locking eyes, the two exchange flirty banter before they almost share a kiss, except Ella moves away at the last moment. As Ella tries to explain why she avoided the kiss, she and Henry are approached by Alice, who asks for their help with finding her father Hook. The couple leads her back to him but the reunion goes badly, with the poison in Hook's heart growing worse after Alice tries to hug him. As a distraught Alice runs away, Henry and Ella follow her through a portal to New Wonderland. Upon arrival to this realm, Ella leads Henry towards a cottage she believes Alice went into, only for them to be caught in a net trap. Much to Ella's bemusement, Henry finds the situation funny as he recalls how his grandpa caught his grandma in a similar trap after she hit him with a rock. Ella grabs Henry's sword, but the blade accidentally slices the rope, freeing them and sending them tumbling. Henry maintains high hopes that Alice and her father will be together again and shares his grandparents' famous motto, "I will always find you". However, Ella thinks he is a bit naive as he comes from a place where true love prevails, while her world is one of broken promises. Inside a cottage where Ella recognizes a tiny entrance to the Infinite Maze, Henry realizes she has other motives for coming to Wonderland. She shows him her mother and father's lockets which they used to always find each other, but her mother ran away to Wonderland, where her locket stopped glowing and led her father to believe she had stopped loving him. As Ella wishes to learn why her mother left, she drinks a shrinking potion and goes into the maze alone, leaving Henry to track her down. Instead, Drizella freezes him as she carries out her plans of poisoning his heart to ensure her curse cannot be broken without fatal consequences if he and Ella ever share true love's kiss. Ella arrives in time to stop Drizella, who is sent home through a looking glass, before revealing to Henry that she found him because of the lockets, which are now glowing in sync. With her belief in true love restored, Ella kisses Henry. The pair returns to a recovering Hook and gives him a knight chess piece from Alice, who has hopes they can be together after he is cured. Outside, Tiana informs Henry that a man has come to see him. Henry, at first, has a tense confrontation with the stranger before dropping the act to hug him as the two reunite as old friends. He then introduces the man, Jack, to Ella. ("Pretty in Blue")

On a quest to pave out his own experience with adventure and danger, Henry enters a cave with Hook and Ella to track down and slay a golden dragon. Ella gives Henry a kiss as good luck before they venture further in, only to find a scrounger freeloading on wine that the beast left behind after it migrated elsewhere. Ella leaves to march the man out, while Henry shares his disappointment with Hook about the missed opportunity of doing something exciting and heroic because he wishes to be more than the plain person he is now. Henry is eager to truly know himself in his own story instead of being a character in someone else's, in addition to wanting to impress Ella by proposing to her with a ring that has a meaningful story behind it. Having just the idea of how to obtain such a ring, Hook brings him to the Wish Realm, where they head into a tavern to discuss using a map to reach Davy Jones' Locker and locating rare treasures. They overhear Black Beard, who is now captain of the Jolly Roger which he seized from Smee, recruiting crewmen for a sea journey. After Henry and Hook sneak aboard, they talk to Smee as they figure out their plan for a coup to reclaim ownership of the ship, however, Black Beard and the other pirates capture them, intending to nab the treasure and then execute them. Henry, Hook, and Smee are restrained as the pirates haul up a chest from Davy Jones' Locker, which contains a horde of jewels, particularly a ring called the Star Sapphire which Black Beard mentions was Davy Jones' gift to his bride. As Black Beard is monologuing to his crew, Hook breaks his restraints on a nail before freeing Henry and handing him a weapon, encouraging him to get the ring. Henry successfully fights his way to Black Beard and makes him forfeit the ring. However, Black Beard expresses knowledge of Henry's quest to impress his bride, admitting that the whole situation was a setup, except for the treasure which Hook promised to split with all of them if they helped him. As Henry tells Hook a fake adventure has no purpose for him if it's not real, a storm breaks out but even as Hook steers the ship away from it, a massive whirlpool keeps tailing them. Henry, realizing Davy Jones wants his ring back, commands Hook to get the ship close to the undertow. He then climbs onto the bowsprit and returns the ring to its watery grave by throwing it into the whirlpool, causing the circular vortex to finally close up. Deciding he doesn't need a fantastical tale in order to be content, Henry brings Ella to a lake in order to propose to her. He tells her that his life probably will never be a fairytale and he's still unsure of what will happen in his future, but one leap of faith he is willing to take is to build a home with her. Taking out a thin banded ring, Henry professes that while he cannot be a person of prestige for her, he can offer her his heart. Ella then whispers, asking him if she can say yes yet, and as she laughs at his approving response, she agrees to marry him. After Henry slips the ring on her, he and Ella kiss. ("Breadcrumbs")

Sometime after, Henry and Ella get married. When their daughter Lucy is born, Henry proudly shows her off to his family and friends, but Drizella interrupts to forewarn them of her intentions of casting the curse by the child's eighth birthday. Drizella prepares to retaliate against Henry and his allies when they arm themselves against her, however, she soon finds herself turning into a statue as a result of a trap made by the heroes and Lady Tremaine, although she vows to be back in eight years' time. ("Hyperion Heights", "The Eighth Witch")

While Henry is at a campsite with his friends and family, including Regina, Ella, Hook, and Zelena,[3] he plays with baby Lucy, as Alice observes the group from a distance with her spyglass. ("The Girl in the Tower")

On the day of Tiana's coronation, Henry comes into the castle's dressing room, where Ella and Regina are helping Tiana get ready, and he tells them that a crowd has gathered outside to see their future Queen. However, Dr. Facilier interrupts the moment to warn Tiana of a fearsome beast that will soon threaten her kingdom and, as proof, he directs her into checking the Fairy Docks at the southern edge of the bayou. After Tiana kills the beast, at the cost of losing her ally Naveen to Facilier, Henry asks if she ever found out why the man sent her there in the first place. Tiana reveals, much to everyone's chagrin, that Facilier wanted to retrieve a necklace which was trapped inside the beast. Before going out to greet her subjects, Tiana insists that her mother Eudora, Henry, Ella, and Regina come with her because she trusts them to help her protect her people. Henry picks up his daughter from her cradle on his way out and notices Regina lingering behind. Regina tells him she needs a moment, and after Henry has left, she calls Facilier out from hiding. ("A Taste of the Heights")

In the courtyard of Queen Tiana's castle, Henry and Ella sit under a pavilion as they fawn over their baby daughter, while Hook sadly watches them, reminded of his own daughter whom he is separated from. As Henry passes Lucy into his wife's arms, the couple is startled by the appearance of an open portal as Regina's sister Zelena comes through. A little later, Henry and Ella continue looking after Lucy while Zelena and Regina get into an argument. ("Secret Garden")

Years later, Henry is present at during Lucy's eighth birthday celebration, but before the girl can blow out her cake candles, Gothel arrives with seven witches to free Drizella before whisking her away to help her enact the curse. Henry and Ella come up with a plan to save everyone if the curse cannot be stopped, in which Henry and Lucy will go to the Land Without Magic before the curse arrives and use the storybook to help their people believe again. Henry brings Lucy to a tree that contains magic capable of transporting someone to another realm and introduces her to Tiger Lily, who helped find the tree. As Tiger Lily mentions bringing along Geppetto's ax for Henry to cut down the tree, Lucy panics when she realizes her father intends to make a portal out of it. Henry calmly explains the plan to Lucy, persuading her that it's the last resort in case there is no way to stop the curse, before allowing Tiger Lily to take her to a hideout while he stays to chop down the tree. By nightfall, however, Henry flees the area as Gothel's coven of witches chase after him. He arrives at the hideout and frantically wakes up Lucy, who is frightened by his urgency, but he tells her to take her book and keep it safe. She swears to protect it with her life but is assured that it will not come to that. Henry kisses her on the head before she runs off through a back exit and he goes to fight off the witches, but he is eventually captured by them. Lucy later returns to the shack, and when she is unable to find her father, she is encouraged by Tiger Lily to return to her mother. As the heroes confront the witches a summoning altar and steal the Dark Curse scroll from Drizella, Gothel reveals one of the cloaked figures is Henry, who is bound and gagged, in addition to being in excruciating pain because his heart was poisoned by the witches. Regina and Ella rush to unbind him, but they can do nothing to ease his suffering, as Regina's magic cannot heal him. Drizella instructs Regina to cast the curse not only because she needs someone who already cast the curse once before, but that Henry's only chance at survival is in a Land Without Magic. Henry musters up the strength to weakly urge his mother not to do it, but Regina finally consents, unable to watch her son dying before her eyes. When the curse hits, Henry manages to cling on as the dark cloud engulfs him and brings him to Seattle. ("Hyperion Heights," "The Final Battle Part 1," "The Final Battle Part 2," "The Eighth Witch")

During Fifth Curse

After Regina cast Drizella's curse to save his life, Henry lives in Seattle and works as a pickup driver for the company Swyft. The poison in his heart, while not gone, becomes dormant and no longer affects him as a result of him being in a realm with no magic, though if true love's kiss breaks the curse, he will die from the poison. In this life, Henry lives alone in his apartment and believes his wife and child died in a fire. He authors a book called "Once Upon a Time" and begins working on a new story, but finds himself unable to come up with the opening line. A little girl, Lucy, shows up at his apartment claiming to be his daughter, and although Henry denies this, she pushes her way in. Lucy comments on Henry's lack of success although he is an author, which he insists is not for her to know about and then puts away his laptop into his desk drawer. She then tells him about his cursed memories and then informs him about her town being run by her step-grandmother, saying she is trying separate people from their loved ones by trapping them in Hyperion Heights, but Henry refuses to believe her and persuades her to return home. The next day, Henry opens his drawer, only to notice his laptop is missing. On a sticky note left behind by Lucy, she claims responsibility for the theft and tells him to meet her at Roni's if he wants it back. Henry drives there, but shortly after stepping out of his car, he meets a strange woman who gives him an enigmatic smile. At Roni’s, he meets the bar owner Roni and the two of them exchange stories about each other’s dilemmas. Jacinda, Lucy’s mother, arrives to return his laptop and apologize for her daughter’s behavior. As the pair have drinks together, Jacinda explains how she ended up with Lucy, and her dream to live with her daughter on a nearby island. Victoria, Jacinda’s stepmother, walks in and confronts Jacinda about Lucy sneaking out to see Henry, and states she is taking permanent custody of her grandchild. After Jacinda storms out, Victoria tries to convince Henry to leave Lucy and go home. When Henry goes outside, he discovers that his car has been stolen, which he confronts Lucy about. She denies it, only to continue begging him to stay in town and to find his story, but he refuses due to his prior experience with losing his supposed family. At the police station, Henry gains help from Officer Rogers to search for the car. Victoria, in search of a missing Lucy, pries Henry for information about her whereabouts in exchange for locating his car, to which he reveals what Jacinda told him earlier on. Rogers eventually finds the car, and as Henry reclaims it, Jacinda says an amicable goodbye to him. After Henry returns home, he brings a bouquet of flowers for his supposed wife and child's grave, only to discover that the cemetery is actually a parking lot, which a bystander claims as having been there since forever, much to his confusion. He later returns home and begins writing a new story with the opening line, "Once upon a time…". ("Hyperion Heights," "The Eighth Witch")

Early in the morning, Henry receives a visit from Rogers, who asks him about the blonde woman in his book. He tells him that she was just someone he made up, much to Rogers' disappointment, but as the officer is leaving, he requests his help with locating a cemetery where his deceased family members are buried. After learning from Rogers that Jacinda and Lucy are not doing well since yesterday's events, Henry returns to Hyperion Heights to apologize to Jacinda for what he did. Jacinda is unimpressed and bemoans her separation from Lucy, whose ballet recital she can't even attend because Victoria upped the price for an admission ticket. Henry offers to lend her money, however, Jacinda declines, not wanting to be saved like a damsel in distress and insists she can earn her own cash. Despite this, Henry refuses to give up, so he goes to the venue for the ballet and convinces the caterer there that he needs another open bar. After being hired as the bartender, he places an ad on a work gig app, which attracts both Jacinda and her roommate Sabine as new servers. Jacinda, still reluctant, goes along with it for the sake of seeing Lucy again. While mother and daughter are reunited, Sabine pointedly asks Henry if he is in love with Jacinda, to which Henry nervously denies it before explaining he's just trying to fix his mistake. Victoria, annoyed at Henry's meddling, orders Weaver and Rogers to force him out, to which Weaver commands Rogers to implicate Henry for theft. During the recital, Rogers purposely bumps into Henry, but instead of slipping Victoria's bracelet into his apron, he puts in a keychain he swiped from Henry's apartment earlier. When Weaver orders the venue staff to turn out their pockets in order to find the missing bracelet, Henry intervenes to protect Jacinda, causing his face to be bruised by the detective. Weaver then demands Henry reveal what is in his apron, which Henry follows through with, and to the surprise of both of them, it's the keychain. Later that night as Henry is nursing his wound at Roni's, Jacinda gives him a beer as a peace offering and thanks him for giving her a way to see Lucy, despite her continued resistance against being like Cinderella, and that he took a hit from Weaver for her. Before going to finish up her late shift, she also finally accepts his apology. Rogers gives Henry a list of known cemeteries in Seattle, although he could not find his family's names, and then talks about once being saved by a woman who resembles Henry's character. He believes, after seeing Victoria accuse Henry of theft, that she may be responsible for interfering with other people's lives as well. Rogers shares this theory with Roni too, and the three decide to work together to oust Victoria for her crimes. ("A Pirate's Life")

One morning at the bar, Henry and his new team members to discuss Victoria's plans of bribing an employee from the building commission to gain access to redeveloping the neighborhood. Rogers decides to have a stakeout where the employee is meeting Victoria and possibly getting evidence of the bribe, which Henry is interested in being a part of, but Rogers believes he would do better with researching who the employee is. As Henry is working on this, Jacinda drops by to get advice from Roni about how to stop Victoria from demolishing the community gardens. While Jacinda is out collecting signatures for a petition to stop the demolition, Lucy comes to find Henry at the bar to show him that at least 100 people have signed. The girl coyly approves of him coming back to Hyperion Heights for her mom, which Henry denies, clarifying that while he is here to help Jacinda save the gardens, there is no other reason for his presence. Henry wonders why she isn't more upset about the garden's possible demise, to which Lucy reveals she isn't because it's giving her mother something to fight for and hopefully wake up from the curse. Lucy then tells him a secret about the demolition, in that it's not about the condos but something that's hidden below it which Victoria wants to retrieve. At the dig site, Lucy becomes excited upon seeing something in the ground has been unearthed and hops into the underground tunnel to find it, as a shocked and concerned Henry follows her in. Henry remains skeptical of Lucy's claims that there is something magical hidden inside, while Lucy once again challenges him about his cursed memories and the nonexistent cemetery where his family is supposedly buried. When they reach a dead-end in the tunnel, Henry is convinced there is nothing more to see, but Lucy picks up a piece of Cinderella's glass slipper. Lucy believes it is more than enough proof that the curse is real and vows to give to her mother to make her remember. Sometime after the pair escapes the tunnel and Lucy discovers Jacinda has given up on the garden, Henry catches up with a glum Lucy before they both spot a rally going on at the demolition site. There, they hear Jacinda persuade the residents to sign the petition again and join her in reinvigorating the garden. Afterward, Henry has ice cream with Jacinda and Lucy. He parts ways from them, but Lucy rushes up to give him the slipper, telling him that as her mother is already becoming a hero, he should have it as a reminder he will find his true love even if he thinks she is gone. Henry is a little exasperated by her claims, though Lucy placates him with the suggestion that he won't find his family in some cemetery and that all he has to do is believe she and her mom are the ones he is looking for. Henry then watches as Lucy and Jacinda share a tender mother-daughter embrace. That night, he stops by a cemetery in Hyperion Heights to look at the headstones, seemingly finding nothing of interest. As Henry pulls out the slipper from his pocket, his attention is caught by two headstone inscriptions that bear the names of his deceased wife and child. ("The Garden of Forking Paths")

On Halloween, Henry samples Roni's new drink called the Poisoned Apple, though he suggests it'll be better if she adds cinnamon to it. Roni recognizes he is more downtrodden than yesterday when she saw him with Jacinda and Lucy. Henry admits he is feeling terrible since he found the graves of his wife and child, which Roni sympathizes with because of how hard it is to move on from them but he has to let go eventually. Roni encourages him to ask Jacinda out on a date and suggests that moving on doesn't mean he forgets his loved ones and that he owes it to himself to at least try to find happiness again. At Jacinda's workplace, Henry observes her helping a family of four with their Halloween-themed meal before jokingly asking her if the Scary Fries on the menu are Exorcist or Gremlin level scary. After Jacinda answers his question and prompts him about whether he wants to order anything, he nervously tries to ask her out, only to stutter repeatedly until Jacinda's attention is diverted when she sees Ivy snooping outside. Henry follows her out and witnesses the two stepsisters get into a squabble because Lucy is missing. Jacinda prepares to risk losing her job in order to go look for her daughter, but Henry agrees to help her look instead. Before letting Henry go, she provides him with a list of places Lucy might have gone. By nightfall, Henry finds a tearful Ivy sitting alone. He learns she dislikes following Victoria's orders and that she only does because, without her mother's approval, she has no one, unlike Jacinda who will always have Lucy even if the two are apart from each other. Henry sympathizes with her loneliness and baggage, which he also admits to having. When Ivy expresses interest in changing, Henry suggests she has to take a risk by doing things differently. She helps to look at the list Jacinda provided and points out she is likely at the haunted house. They bring Lucy back to Jacinda before Ivy suggests the mother-daughter duo and Henry can go trick-or-tricking for the remainder of the night. Henry, however, decides not to as he doesn't want to get in the way of some mother and daughter bonding. Jacinda prompts him about what he wanted to ask her earlier, but he lies, stating he wants her to read his blog post about the garden when it's published. Henry then joins Ivy at the bar, where she thanks him for helping her put herself first for once and for listening to her side of the story. Ivy asks why he didn't go with Jacinda, with Henry admitting it's complicated, to which she toasts him with the vow to keep things "uncomplicated". ("Beauty")

At the bar, Rogers shows Henry a box of evidence pertaining to the missing girl, Eloise Gardner, whom he never found. After Rogers' departure, Roni grills him about why he was with Ivy during the other night. Henry believes she is not bad like Victoria and that she might be willing to help them take her down, despite Roni's reservations about the girl's motives. Henry receives a call from Ivy about Victoria's recent habit of spending time in a secret room on the top floor of Belfrey Towers, which he then informs Roni about. Roni is unhappy he is actually putting his trust in Ivy and wonders if he is falling for her. She insists Jacinda is the better option for him because she doesn't believe Ivy has genuine feelings for him. Henry expresses frustration over her acting like his mother, although Roni reasons that, if his mother were present, she'd tell him to get back into writing, ask Jacinda on a date, and tip her generously for giving him such sound advice. Upon seeing Henry begin leaving, she inquires about where he is going, to which Henry exasperatedly states that he's headed to the bathroom unless she means to hold his hand in there too. Ivy texts Henry to meet her in the office lobby, however, Roni replies for him, telling Ivy "he" will be there, only to delete both texts from Henry's phone afterward. Roni, after being shown to the top floor by Ivy, comes clean to Henry about what she did and shows him a photograph she found in the secret room. The purported picture is of Roni, except she is in stylish clothes and has her arms around a young boy. Roni claims she has no idea who the boy is, but a stunned Henry recognizes the child as himself. ("Greenbacks")

Looking at the picture with Roni, Henry deducts they were photoshopped into it, with Roni as his mother the Evil Queen and him as her son from his book. Roni, thinking Victoria is messing with them, grabs her baseball bat to go teach her a lesson, but Henry persuades her to wait so they can investigate things first. Jacinda pops in to borrow tools from Roni for a food truck she is fixing, and Henry offers to help her, but she declines before rushing out. Henry is confused by her avoidance of him until he discovers photos that Ivy published online of them from their bar night out and the possibility that Jacinda thinks he and Ivy are an item now. When Lucy sees the Regina and Henry photo, she pieces together who is who in the photo, including the fact the Evil Queen Regina adopted Henry in Boston, and goes off to execute a way in which Roni can remember her old life. Roni takes Henry out for pizza, and as they walk the streets, she talks about her failed attempt to adopt in the past as she was told she was not fit to be a parent, however, Henry assures her that she is a mother to lots of people in Hyperion Heights. When Roni suggests they pretend to believe Lucy's fantasies so she stops being defensive about her beliefs and will accept the truth in her own time, Henry dubs their mission Operation: Heartbreak. He has a hunch about where Lucy went, but rather than go together, Roni decides to track her on her own and directs him to Jacinda's food truck, jokingly telling him to "be charming and don't slouch." While Jacinda is under the truck, Henry switches the radio to a song by The English Beat before propping the stereo over his head. Jacinda rolls out to ask why he is playing that song, and when he rambles about his love for 80s music and his penchant for making mixtapes, she remarks how little sense he is making. Seeing as she isn't getting the hint, Henry awkwardly explains that, in his experience, mixtapes worked as an icebreaker when he wanted to ask a girl out. He goes on to clarify nothing happened between him and Ivy and that, in fact, Jacinda is the one he can't stop thinking about. Jacinda reasons she is too busy with a new business and being a single mother, though Henry states he is willing whenever she has time for him. Jacinda prompts him about going on a date as he helps her fix the truck and remarks that mixtapes always work on girls. As Jacinda turns away, Henry revels in the successful date by pumping his fists in the air and resumes a normal stance just as she passes a wrench to him. He then goes to work on the truck, while Jacinda turns up the stereo before joining him. Henry later phones Roni, who doesn't answer as she has just regained her true memories and is manipulated by an awake Ivy into recalling what will happen to Henry and those she loves if the curse breaks. He eventually finds Roni and reports that his date with Jacinda went well. Under the pretense of helping Lucy, Roni asks about his mother, to which Henry reveals he was born in prison and grew up in the system after never being adopted. Henry is surprised when Roni expresses knowledge about Emma, one of his fictional characters, with him recalling that he gave himself two mothers in his book to fulfill his lifelong desire for a mother. Roni then almost tells him the truth but catches herself before she does and instead says she is glad that they are getting to know each other. ("Wake Up Call")

After Henry and Jacinda get the electrical system on the food truck to start running, they celebrate by getting drinks at the bar, where Roni agrees to hire Jacinda to help her earn money. Ivy, seeing how close the two are getting, continues pushing Roni to separate the two and prevent true love's kiss from happening. In conversation with Henry, Rogers is adamant that Eloise is still alive and, despite how crazy it sounds, he feels a familial bond with the missing girl. Henry accompanies him as they find Alice and persuade her to help talk to the street kids to see if they know anything about Eloise. Later while waiting for Tilly to report back, Rogers admits to Henry that he's so invested in Eloise because he feels guilty for her disappearance, as he was drinking instead of patrolling during the night she went missing. When Alice meets up with Rogers and Henry again, she provides a story and evidence that a runaway girl named Rain who died in a car accident was Eloise, which devastates Rogers. Roni, after hiring Jacinda to work for her in the bar, subtlely convinces her that pursuing a new relationship with Henry won't look good in the eyes of social workers if she intends to regain custody of Lucy. After the rough day with Rogers, Henry mentions how much he is looking forward to the date, however, Jacinda cancels it, apologetically telling him she picked up an extra shift to earn more money. He tries to be understanding about it and suggests they could do something next weekend, to which Jacinda hesitantly says maybe. After Jacinda walks off, Henry looks let down by her rejection as a guilty Roni notices his reaction. ("Eloise Gardener")

In the aftermath of Victoria's imprisonment, Henry records Ivy in an on-camera interview about what happened. He thanks her for her help as he knows the subject matter is hard to talk about, to which Ivy comments on the fact she feels safe around him. She flatters him about his writing skills and asks if he has ever considered turning his blog into a podcast with Belfrey Towers as his sponsor. Roni interrupts the conversation to get Henry's help with unjamming her keg room door, which Henry cheerily goes to fix. Later at the bar counter, Henry unexpectedly bonds with a stranger over their shared music tastes before finding out that he is Jacinda's ex as well as Lucy's biological father who is helping her with the custody case. Henry brings his storybook to Lucy, who persuades her to best Nick by fixing the food truck. While Henry is working on the truck engine, Sabine drops by, observantly picking up on the fact he is trying to impress Jacinda. Henry gets the engine running just as Jacinda and Nick arrive back from their date, to which he tosses the keys to Jacinda before walking out. Jacinda catches up with him, insisting she doesn't have any feelings for Nick and reveals she was trying so hard to impress him is because she is too ashamed about how she lost Lucy to Victoria in the first place. She admits Victoria never won custody of Lucy as she gave up her daughter voluntarily out of fear she would lose the case if she tried to fight her stepmother. Although Jacinda is afraid of Lucy finding out, Henry encourages her to trust that her daughter will understand and to be honest with Nick if she is serious about getting Lucy back. Jacinda apologizes for things being weird between them now, but Henry suggests it might not be the right time for them to date. As Henry drowns his feelings by getting drunk, Roni takes away his drink and persuades him to spend his energy by joining her for a trip to California to look for someone whose help she needs. During Henry's absence, Jacinda makes a mixtape for him but when she comes to the bar to give it to him, she finds out he already left town. ("Pretty in Blue")

After getting to San Francisco, Henry misses a call from Jacinda, not knowing she intended to inform him that Lucy has gone into a coma. He phones her back, but when she doesn't pick up, he starts to wonder if something is wrong. Roni persuades him to allow Jacinda to contact him if she needs him and then provides him with a pair of sweatpants to wear for a pedaling class. During the class, Henry has doubts about whatever plan Roni has but she insists he plays along in order to get in the good graces of the instructor, Kelly, who is the person she is looking for. By the end of it, Kelly unhappily confronts Roni before telling Henry to leave. Henry then goes out and is gone for the duration of Kelly and Roni's talk, during which he finds out via phone that Lucy is in the hospital, and he rushes back to inform Roni that he is hitching a plane ride back to Seattle. On return to Hyperion Heights, he visits Lucy in her hospital room and expresses a desire to do more to help her, to which Jacinda gives him the idea to read his storybook to Lucy. After reading up to the part where Emma starts to believe in magic to save her son's life, Henry considers out loud that he too would be willing to believe in the impossible if it means his belief could save Lucy. He decides he does believe in another reality where he really is her father, and then kisses her on the forehead in an attempt to evoke true love's kiss and wake her up. To Henry's disappointment, Lucy remains unconscious. Henry phones Roni to bring her up to date about the girl's unchanged state, while Roni struggles with the idea of breaking the curse to help Lucy, however, doing so will result in Henry's death. ("The Eighth Witch")

Henry stays with Jacinda as she continues to be by Lucy's bedside, but he exits the room upon seeing Roni is back with Kelly. He tells Roni that Lucy's condition is stable but she's not getting any better, in addition to him not being able to do anything else to help. Roni reminds him not to give up and how much Lucy needs his belief even if she can't ask for it right now. Henry thanks her for the pep talk, but walks off in low spirits. After Doctor Sage is unable to find a conclusive answer about Lucy's condition, she asks Jacinda and Nick to submit their blood samples to test for a genetic match between them and Lucy in case there is an emergency where a donor is needed. Henry tells the doctor to test him as well, and he later explains to Jacinda that despite the low chance of him being a match for Lucy, he wanted to do it as he would have for his own family. When Jacinda then asks what it was like to lose them, Henry offers his reassurance that she won't lose Lucy and her daughter will wake up eventually. After Victoria sacrifices herself to the Resurrection Amulet, her life is traded for Lucy's revival. As the girl opens her eyes, Henry and Jacinda are elated by her return and keep her company as she eats. Later, Doctor Sage receives confirmation through the blood test results that Henry is Lucy's biological father, however, someone poisons her and steals the results. ("Secret Garden")

After Victoria's unexpected death, Henry records and releases the first episode of his new podcast, H-Town, which explores the secrets and intrigues of the residents of Hyperion Heights. He comes to the bar to see Roni and Kelly now working alongside each other, but while the sisters are away, he receives a text from Jacinda asking him to come over for game night with her and Lucy. He replies to confirm he will just as Remy drops by to not-so-subtly inquire if his story will be on a future episode of the podcast. Henry assures him that he'll get to him eventually, to which Remy notices how often he mentioned Jacinda in the first episode and comments that her mixtape must have made him happy. Not knowing what Remy means, he asks for clarification and finds out that the night he left for San Francisco, Jacinda wanted to give him a mixtape she made. When the bar lights go out, Remy leaves to check the breaker box while Mr. Samdi mysteriously appears, introducing himself as an investor and he gives Henry his business card to pass along to Roni. Later, before leaving to follow up on a potential new writing assignment, Henry gives Samdi's card to Roni. Henry brings the board game The Game of Life to Jacinda's apartment, where Lucy tells him that she is sure her fairytale beliefs are true because Victoria, prior to her death, showed her the real storybook. Henry is doubtful, especially since Lucy doesn't know where the book is now, though the girl stresses the more important thing is that he and her mom share true love's kiss tonight and break the curse. Lucy beats Henry at checkers several times before excusing her to her bedroom so Henry and Jacinda can have some alone time together. When asked about the mixtape, Jacinda admits she got cold feet, as Henry also recounts how many tries it took for him to actually ask her out. Jacinda eventually gives him the tape and allows him to go over the song artists she picked for him. As the two develop a more easygoing banter with each other, they nearly kiss, except Lucy bursts in to stop them, having just found out from a storybook page that true love's kiss will kill Henry. Lucy then jumps to sit between the two adults, who go along with her sudden change in behavior. For the rest of the night, Lucy becomes colder towards Henry, causing him to think she believes he is not good enough for Jacinda. ("A Taste of the Heights," "Knightfall")

The next morning at 6 AM, Henry sees Roni inconspicuously walking towards the bar, and after asking her some questions, Roni sheepishly admits she was catching up with an old boyfriend last night. He shares the strange night he had at Jacinda's apartment, where Lucy, at first, tried to bring him and her mother together and later completely shifted her attitude towards him. As Roni opens the bar, she invites him inside for breakfast and support. After Henry receives a text from Ivy, he heads over to Belfrey Towers, where he finds her sorting through Victoria's many belongings. Ivy shares with him her confusion over what to do with herself now that the mother she hated is dead and the fact Victoria had loved her all this time without her knowing it. Having no one else to turn to in this difficult time, she considers Henry the only one who understands her as he has lost family like her and perhaps they could fix each other. She kisses him, but Henry pulls away, suggesting to her that this isn't what she needs right now. Ivy believes otherwise and tries to kiss him again, however, Henry reasons he has been where she is and done stupid things to drown out his feelings when his family died. Ivy is upset at his insinuation of her, but he explains she's still in the grieving process and trying to hold onto something as a distraction. Despite how alone Ivy feels, he persuades her to reach out to the remaining family she has left, Jacinda and Lucy, even if she feels they hate her because they could actually help her figure out the person she is meant to be now. At Henry's apartment later, Ivy shows up with a box of mochi to thank him for his earlier advice as she has now mended fences with Jacinda. She expresses a desire to continue fixing her mistakes and asks for his help with finding her other sister, Anastasia, by being the hero he is deep down inside. ("Knightfall")

Still in the apartment, Henry makes hot cocoa for Ivy, who fondly recalls Anastasia used to make it for her all the time to cheer her up. She has hope it is not too late to make amends with her, and Henry gives her the suggestion she could give a genuine apology to show how truly sorry she is. Ivy agrees, deciding she is going to leave to find Anastasia, but when Henry wants to join her, she instead redirects him to be with someone he is meant to be with: Jacinda. Since things are not going so well with Jacinda, Henry considers maybe he is meant for a life of wallowing and that at least it'll help him be a better writer. Ivy tells him to stop being so cynical because things will get better for him eventually, and when that happens, she hopes he can forgive her. She says that out of everyone she has wronged, she is the sorriest for what she has done to him. Henry is confused by what she means, but Ivy elaborates on how she wishes she could've met him before she became who she was and that she might've made better choices in life. Before heading out the door, she gives him a kiss on the cheek as a goodbye. A few moments later, Henry hears a knock and he opens the door thinking Ivy came back, but instead, it is Rogers, who needs his help with hiding Tilly from the cops as she is now a wanted murder suspect. While Tilly is asleep on the couch, Henry talks to Rogers about how unlikely it is that the girl killed anyone, though he is surprised when Rogers admits Tilly once shot Weaver. They propose that an alibi from a friend could exonerate her, but Tilly admits she doesn't really have friends. With a keen eye for detail, Rogers notices there is sugar on Tilly's sleeve, which the girl mentions is from some beignets she bought from Sabine's food truck yesterday around the time Hilda died. Henry joins Rogers in going there to investigate while Tilly stays in the apartment. Later, however, Henry sees Tilly on the street and quickly pulls her into an alleyway to prevent her from being spotted by the cops. Tilly becomes upset that no one in Hyperion Heights actually knows her and she has no alibi, but Rogers calms her down so she can recount where she went after getting the beignets. When Tilly goes to the dumpster to check for evidence that she was there recently, Henry expresses skepticism that she'll find anything, though Tilly turns up with her backpack which she left there at the time. Returning to the apartment, Tilly sifts through her bag and finds two hair clippings, which Rogers reveals were tokens that the killer took from the victims. Neither Rogers or Henry is able to stop Tilly from leaving as she becomes convinced she is the murderer, despite not remembering if she did it. The men track down Tilly at the troll statue, where she points out the security camera in the troll's eye, explaining that she found her alibi. At the police station, Henry is present as Rogers reviews the camera footage to show Tilly was indeed at the statue at the exact time of Hilda's death. ("The Girl in the Tower")

While blowing off some steam at Flynn's Barcade playing the game Galaga, Henry sees Rogers, who believes he has information about the Candy Killer case, as that is what Lucy apparently told him. When Nick shows up as well, claiming Lucy texted him to meet him in the barcade, Henry realizes the girl duped them. He grumbles that Lucy has literally "texted him into the friendzone" now that she is done pairing him up with Jacinda and he apologizes for wasting Rogers' and Nick's time, however, Rogers insists he wants to stay. Rogers has his turn with Galaga, and later Henry attempts to get a higher score in the game but fails miserably to the point Rogers jokes that he only has one good hand and still did better than him. After sitting down at a table, Henry tells Rogers about his difficulty in forgetting about Jacinda. Rogers advises him to try something different to help himself find where he needs to go, which Henry doesn't understand. When Nick returns with drinks for his companions, he suggests Henry should try his hand at getting to know other women in the bar, and Rogers agrees by telling him to ask out the next woman who walks through the door. To Henry's surprise, Jacinda pops in, having come to wait while a table at the next door restaurant she and Sabine reserved is not yet available. As the two lovebirds hang out, they discuss the possibility that fate is somehow causing them to bump into each other, considering Jacinda happened to book the restaurant next door and walk into the bar when Henry was there too. For fun, Jacinda makes him test his theory of fate by trying to flip a bar token into a nearby empty mug. Henry makes his shot, and as he and Jacinda eagerly watch as the coin soars towards its goal, someone grabs the mug from the counter, causing the coin to miss its target. After being texted by Sabine that their table is ready, Jacinda bids Henry goodbye by kissing him on his cheek. Toward the end of the night, Henry leaves the barcade with Rogers and Nick, and while Nick stays behind to fix a flat tire on car, Henry walks off with Rogers. ("Sisterhood")

Henry looks for Roni at the bar, but he is told by Margot that she's been gone all morning. Margot recognizes him as the host of H-Town and is impressed by his work as everyone has been talking about it. On his way out, Henry notices Nick is drinking to cope with a bad mood. Nick tells him about the disappointing night he had because a client of his got away, and Henry offers support by suggesting that things will change with time and he'll eventually find someone else. When his phone rings, Henry answers it and later tells Jacinda that he was invited by a podcast producer to come to New York, and if the interview goes well, he can produce other people's podcasts. However, accepting the job means leaving Hyperion Heights permanently, which Jacinda is perplexed by but she encourages him to do what is best for his career. Leaving Jacinda's apartment, he thanks her for all that she's done for him and clasps her hand, leaving much unsaid between them as he walks away. In his own apartment, Henry is contemplating the piece of the glass slipper which Lucy once gave him when he hears a knock at his door. He hopes for Jacinda but it's only Weaver, who, as he remembers from their last encounter, gave him a black eye. Weaver apologizes for the past unpleasantness and insists he needs Henry's help to unravel the Candy Killer's motives because the killer is a fan of Henry's novel. Although he agrees to look through a copy of the novel where the killer wrote in notes, Henry finds it difficult to get into the killer's mind when the novel itself was always meant to be a symbol of hope, not darkness. Weaver suggests he has the means to stop the killer, but Henry becomes frustrated over being depended upon when he doesn't actually have the answers. To change his mind, Weaver compares Henry's likeness to his fictional namesake, who had hope and belief, and the best part about the character was his ability to fight for those things like Henry will. Henry agrees, stating he wrote himself into the stories to connect with them, leading him to he realizes the killer sees himself as a character in the novel too. From reading the killer's corrections in the Hansel and Gretel chapter, he deduces that the killer thinks he is Hansel and a possible burn victim who is avenging his sister's death. Henry still plans to go to New York, but Weaver asks him to consider that leaving is the wrong choice. After getting into his car, Henry pulls up Jacinda's phone number but ends up not calling her. He starts driving out of Hyperion Heights to catch his flight, except he gets a flat tire from a piece of glass. When Nick offers him a lift to the airport, Henry shows him the glass and suggests it resembles the glass slipper, causing him to decide it's a sign that he needs to be with Jacinda. Nick begins driving him to Jacinda's apartment, but on the way there, Henry talks about helping Weaver and Rogers with the candy Killer case and what he learned about the killer's psyche. Henry's casual banter with him stops when he notices the latter's arm has a burn mark on it, to which he attempts to give Nick an excuse to drop him off on the street. Nick slows the car to a halt, however, he locks the passenger door, preventing Henry from escaping. Henry makes a split-second decision to hit the unlock button in the hopes of fleeing, but Nick is faster and manages to sedate him with a tranquilizer. Passing out, Henry later awakens tied to a post inside a house, where Nick silences a call from Jacinda on Henry's phone. He calls out to Nick, who ignores him until he refers to him by his real name: Hansel. Henry tries to persuade him to turn himself in and it'll help his case if the police think he is mentally incompetent. Nick agrees it could, but he would rather not as it'll stop him from his killing spree. ("Breadcrumbs")

As Henry remains trapped, Nick sends a text to Jacinda on Henry's phone to give her the impression he is already in New York. He tries to sympathize with Nick's ideations because he is clearly still not over losing his sister, while Nick agrees that the pain is quite real and Henry will help him get revenge on the one who hurt him the most. Later when Henry refuses water from his captor in fear of it being poisoned, Nick is reminded of Henry's 19th birthday, during which he bought Henry the first of the many drinks he has ever had. He further explains how much it meant to him when Henry gave him the nickname "Jack the Giant Killer" and suddenly he could be a hero without having to remember the trauma of being Hansel. Henry asks what went wrong, and Nick admits he hates all witches, including the one who burned him, Henry's aunt Zelena, whom he wants to kill. He then asks to be untied so he can help rewrite Nick's story, but Nick knows he is only offering that in an attempt to trick him. Growing desperate the longer he is held captive, Henry proposes Nick can let him go and he'll help him bring Zelena to the cops. Nick laughs at the idea, telling him about how he too used to not believe just like Henry until one day he somehow regained his true memories. In the hopes that giving proof will help Henry to believe, Nick shows him the blood test result he swiped from Doctor Sage after he killed her, which confirms Henry is actually Lucy's father. Henry instead rejects it as a forgery, and upon learning Nick believes Zelena is Kelly, he berates his thinking as nothing but a delusional fantasy. Perplexed by Henry's stubbornness, Nick decides to go forward with his plans whether Henry fully understands him or not, and apologizes before knocking Henry out to prevent him from undoing his restraints. Later, Rogers discovers from the text on Jacinda's phone that Nick is the Candy Killer and breaks into the apartment to free Henry. ("Chosen")

In the aftermath of Nick's arrest, Jacinda tries to get Henry to open up about what happened, but he insists he is not ready to talk about it yet. Henry, still uneasy about some of the things Nick told him, goes to the police station and asks for permission from Rogers to talk to Nick, only to find out that he died suddenly while in police custody. He still manages to persuade Rogers to let him into Nick's apartment to get the blood test result, which he needs for sussing out the truth about Lucy's paternity. As Henry and Rogers realize someone else is in the apartment with them, Drew knocks Rogers down before sprinting out the door, making the detective give chase while Henry stays behind. Later at the police station, Henry brings coffee to Rogers and learns from the coroner's report that Nick apparently died from being stabbed in the heart from the inside. After verifying with the hospital that his blood test results are real, he shows it to Jacinda to try and convince her that, as crazy as it sounds, Lucy has been right all this time and he is her father. ("The Guardian")

Over at his apartment, Henry continues to try and persuade Jacinda that the test result is real and could prove everything in his book actually happened. Jacinda ponders how he could possibly be Lucy's father but she somehow magically forgot about it. Henry explains how it felt like love at first sight for him when he first met her in Hyperion Heights, though now he believes it was because he already loved her before in their old lives. Henry offers up the glass shards he has as proof she is Cinderella before having her hold them and encouraging her to try to believe. Jacinda seems to consider it, but then her phone buzzes with a text from Sabine. She apologizes, stating Sabine needs help at the food truck and begins leaving. Henry asks if he freaked her out, and Jacinda admits he did somewhat. Later in his apartment, Henry maps out the characters from his book and manages to match some of them to real-life people in Hyperion Heights. Rogers and Tilly come to him for help with the Eloise Gardener case, and the three of them brainstorm the probability that, if Eloise really is in a coven of witches, the reason she isn't using magic is because the bigger the spell, the more magic users are needed for it. After getting a call from Samuel about the coven members being spotted at a theater, Rogers leaves with Tilly to go there. Henry continues with his research as, unbeknownst to him, Lucy and Jacinda discover one of the glass slippers which Lucy brings to Mr. Samdi to cure Henry. Once Samdi has crushed the slipper and the shards go into a voodoo doll, the shards make their way to Henry in his apartment, entering his body and removing the poison in his heart. Shortly after, Henry gets a call from Jacinda, who shares the news about finding the slipper. At her apartment, Jacinda excitedly reveals the shards he gave her were a perfect fit for the slipper and she would show it to him, but Lucy ran off somewhere with it. As they come to grips over having met each other in another life, Henry hints at the fact they haven't kissed yet. Jacinda begins leaning in but pauses to consider that she's not yet Cinderella as her only memories are of the life she now. She asks if that's okay and after Henry confirms it is, the two kiss. Lucy returns home, elated that her parents are finally together, but soon realizes even with true love's kiss, the curse is still not broken. ("Flower Child")

Although it seems Henry has accepted everything in his book truly happened, Gothel reveals to Roni and Lucy that Henry has actually lost his belief and this is why the curse remains unbroken. As Henry packs for a weekend trip with Jacinda and Lucy to Bainbridge Island, Roni visits him and puts a bit of memory potion in his coffee, hoping to trigger his real memories. When nothing happens, Roni realizes Gothel was right about Henry's belief. Henry insists fairytales are not real and explains away past happenings, like the glass slipper being a coincidence that he and Jacinda needed to get over themselves in order to be together and the fact nothing magical occurred after their kiss proves he was trying too hard to be happy by being someone else. Stunned at his rationalizations, Roni asks if he wants to believe. Henry states he does but he is invested in his and Jacinda's real lives and is done searching for himself in an imaginary past. As an alternative, Roni locates the storybook while Lucy tricks Henry into coming with her to the bar. Roni and Lucy persuade him to touch the book as it'll help him remember, which Henry goes along with, but nothing happens. After Lucy runs off, Roni shows Henry the alleged photoshopped picture of her and a younger Henry in addition to the papers that Regina Mills signed to adopt Henry. She matches Regina's signature with her own to prove she is his mother, but Henry reminds her that he never had a home and the one he had with his family went up in flames. Henry, upset at her refusal to let him move on from his past, suggests that if his book is real, why aren't the heroes like Emma, Snow, or Charming saving the day or finding each other. Roni explains that Gothel's curse brought them to a Land Without Magic but it also brought them back in time, which means their younger past selves are still in Storybrooke. Henry warns her to stop because none of what she is saying happened, and Roni argues that all of it is true except he no longer believes in himself. Pushed to his breaking point, Henry declares no one wants to believe more than him because it means the inescapable pain he has over losing his family isn't real, however, the reality is he couldn't save his wife and child. Roni recalls he couldn't save Ella and Lucy when the curse was cast and is still blaming himself even now, but she has belief in him to save them now because they've always been by his side. Henry reacts by leaving, and as he accompanies Lucy home, the girl angrily berates him for choosing not to believe before slamming her bedroom door in his face. Henry looks at the adoption papers that Roni somehow slipped into his bag and notices the phone number for Regina's house. He calls the number, and after hearing young Henry's voice on the line, he awakens from the curse. Remembering that he was once in young Henry's position and had the same conversation with his older self, Henry chats to his younger self about his plans for the future, and advises him to not think of home as a place but as the people in it who will be with him no matter where he goes. Before hanging up, he also tells him to look for a box behind the dresser, which, unknown to young Henry, contains the magic bean that he eventually uses to go to the New Enchanted Forest. Henry, upon seeing Lucy for the first time since his memories returned, embraces her in a hug before going to find Roni, who has been knocked unconscious by Gothel. As he begs her to come back to him and kisses her forehead, he unknowingly uses the power of true love's kiss to break the curse. ("Is This Henry Mills?")

After Fifth Curse

After the Dark Curse is broken, Henry and Roni face off against Gothel, however, Roni's magic is no match for the witch's magic. The pair then watch as Tilly arrives, and with support from Margot and Rogers, she gains the confidence to counterattack Gothel, who she transforms into a tree. In the aftermath, Henry admits to his mom that he got lost along the way and stopped believing in himself, but as she taught him, setbacks are a part of life. Jacinda arrives to find Henry, and their family is made whole again when Lucy joins them as the three of them have a group hug. ("Is This Henry Mills?")

To celebrate the broken curse and the reunion of his family, Henry joins his wife and daughter at Roni's to share drinks. Over at Henry's apartment later, Lucy makes cupcakes for herself and her parents, with each one having a lit candle. Henry fondly recalls how his own mother made a wish on a cupcake that reunited her with him, and now that Jacinda and Lucy are with him, he doesn't know what to wish for. They all blow out their candles together, but Henry opens his eyes to see he is now alone. Rumplestiltskin of the Wish Realm reveals himself to be the culprit, explaining that he kidnapped them to his realm and won't give them back until Henry forfeits Weaver's dagger to him. Once Henry alerts Weaver, Rogers, and Roni to what happened, they borrow Tilly's broken looking glass, which, unknown to them, has been tampered with by Rumplestiltskin in order to manipulate where they end up in the Wish Realm. While Rogers and Weaver end up at another location, Henry and Roni arrive in the Dark One's castle, where Peter Pan, who is imprisoned in a pillory, offers unhelpful advice about the implausibility of Jacinda and Lucy ever escaping, before they run into Cruella, Rumplestiltskin's castle guard. Cruella makes a flirtatious pass at Henry, but after being rejected by him, she challenges him to a duel. Henry beats her as she attempts to use her womanly wiles to keep him from killing her, though Roni saves him the trouble by teleporting Cruella into a dog cage. In another room, Henry and Roni uncover a crystal ball which Jacinda and Lucy are trapped in. Rumplestiltskin continues to press Henry for the dagger, but the latter is unwilling to sacrifice Weaver's happiness for his own. The Dark One then creates a snowstorm in the globe, telling him he has until midnight before his family dies. When Weaver and Rogers rejoin them, Henry insists the only way to save his wife and child is to give up the dagger, even turning against Weaver in his desperation. Weaver, armed with squid ink, goes to face Rumplestiltskin alone, and because Henry is skeptical of his motives, Roni follows Weaver to keep an eye on him. Finding nothing useful in the Dark One's books to help his family, Henry gets an idea to look for the Author's pen instead. After knocking Rogers out to ensure he doesn't stop him from going to such a dangerous place, he goes to claim the pen from the Apprentice. The Apprentice, although blind, uses magic to look into Henry's memories as proof that he truly is the Author, causing the pen to appear in Henry's hand. Henry then returns to the castle and steals the pen's ink from Cruella's hair before preparing to use his writing ability to free Jacinda and Lucy, however, Rumplestiltskin steals both items so Sir Henry can aid him in writing the Guardian's powers out of existence. After doing so, Henry, Weaver, and Rogers are banished by Rumplestiltskin into the snowglobe world, while Sir Henry prepares to exact revenge on Roni. ("Homecoming")

Now trapped in the snowglobe world, Henry, Rogers, and Weaver seek shelter in a cabin, where they reunite with Jacinda and Lucy. Henry goes with his wife and daughter to find some blankets, while Rogers and Weaver make a futile attempt at chipping away the glass around the globe. They are saved when Tilly, Margot, and a past timeline version of Zelena give them Maui's hook to free them. Upon finding out Sir Henry plans to execute Roni tomorrow, Rogers and Margot distract the Black Knights guarding the dungeon to allow Henry to sneak in and rescue Roni. Henry faces some of the knights in combat, with one of them almost killing him, before he is saved by two other knights who reveal themselves to be his grandparents, Snow and David. After saving Roni, they all regroup with the other heroes at the war council room to discuss the storybooks Rumplestiltskin has made to entrap each of them in unhappy lives in alternate realms. Henry joins Tilly, Rogers, and Margot to track down Weaver, who has since found a bit of magic to give himself the heart-ripping ability to use on Rumplestiltskin. However, Sir Henry's blood, which becomes darkened from his hatred for Roni, helps to open the portals to the storybook realms. Henry manages to grab onto Margot during this to prevent her from being sucked in, and the portals eventually close after Roni persuades Sir Henry to turn away from darkness. With Rogers on the verge of death after being too close to Tilly and no other way to stop the Dark One, Weaver rips out his own heart to give it to Rogers, simultaneously killing himself and Rumplestiltskin at the same time. In the aftermath of Rumplestiltskin's defeat, the two Henrys talk to Roni about what they should do next. Roni tells them she found the Dark Curse scroll and wants to cast one last curse, but instead of taking the heart of the thing she loves most, she'll take a piece of everyone's hearts to help bring all of them together. ("Leaving Storybrooke")

After Sixth Curse
Once Regina casts the Dark Curse, the realms become united and the citizens of this unified realm elect her as their new Queen. Zelena brings her sister to the castle for her surprise coronation, where Henry accompanies them down the hallway towards the throne room. Henry lets it slip that they're not going in for a meeting about state affairs, to which Zelena reminds him to stick to the plan of not spoiling things. Further down the hallway, Zelena poofs herself into the throne room while Sir Henry and the other Henry walks Regina in, where everyone is waiting for their new Queen. Snow is in the midst of crowning Regina when Emma arrives late for the ceremony, with Hook and their daughter Hope following her in. Emma greets her son before asking him to give Hook a hand with the baby. After the coronation is complete, Regina celebrates by hugging her family members, including Henry. He then listens to her speech about the sorrows and joys of life that make them who they are. ("Leaving Storybrooke")

  1. In "The Dark Swan", Henry mentions that Regina uses his birthday for all of her passwords, including the one for the entrance to the psychiatric ward. In "A Tale of Two Sisters", Regina types 815 as password for the psychiatric ward, meaning that Henry's birthday is August 15. Emma states to Ashey in "The Price of Gold" that she was eighteen at the time she gave birth to Henry but "Save Henry" later shows her giving birth ten year prior to 2011, meaning she was lying or it was a production show error and that she was seventeen and rounding up by just over two months; this places Henry's year of birth as 2001.

  8. Henry was born in August 2001. According to the missing person form in "Darkness on the Edge of Town" (File:412Missing.png), which takes place six weeks after "Heroes and Villains", Mother Superior was reported missing on November 6. (she was trapped inside the Sorcerer's Hat a few days before the six weeks gap) and season 4A takes place in 2013. During the gap between "Heroes and Villains" and the present day events of "Heart of Gold", Zelena becomes pregnant with Robin Hood. In the present day events of "Birth" (which take place a few weeks after the flashback from "Dreamcatcher, where Henry claims to be thirteen), Robin says that Zelena is only two months pregnant. All this places the "Dreamcatcher" flashback in early 2014, meaning that Henry is still several months away from his thirteenth birthday.
