Cassidy Freeman is the American actress who portrays Jack on ABC's Once Upon a Time.

Biography

Cassidy Bree Freeman was born on April 22, 1982 in Chicago, Illinois[1] to Glynna Weger and Lee Freeman, who both worked as Chicago-based attorneys at the law firm Freeman, Freeman and Salzman, and later owned a cattle ranch in Livingston.[2] Her background consists of Native American, German, Scottish, Jewish and Estonian roots.[3] She has two brothers, professional voice actor Crispin,[4] and musician Clark Freeman.[5] Having attended the private academy of the Latin School of Chicago throughout her adolescent years, Cassidy studied abroad in Bolivia before settling in Vermont, where she graduated with magna cum laude honors from Middlebury College in 2005 with degrees in theater and Spanish.[3]

After travelling overseas to Vietnam with her mother, she landed the lead role as Gemma, the girl who gives up speaking for the Catholic tradition of Lent, in the acclaimed New York stage production of Cigarettes and Chocolate, alongside theater veterans Jimmy Ryan and Jesse Hooker. It was in this moving performance that Cassidy was noticed by a talent manager from Los Angeles.[3]

She executive produced and stars alongside her real-life brother Clark in the buzzed-about 2010 gritty indie flick, YellowBrickRoad. Based on the true events that occurred in a remote New Hampshire town, the thriller follows a group of friends who brave the woods to search for an entire town that went missing in the 1940s.[3] Cassidy is best known for her major 2008 television role as the manipulative Tess Mercer on Smallville.

When she's not busy working, the bilingual Cassidy chooses to travel. Among her hobbies are hiking, quilting, playing volleyball, surfing and singing in her family band The Real D'Coy. The eco-conscious Cassidy is passionate about environmental preservation and fulfillment of resources as an active member of the "Heal the Bay" charity, which works toward cleaning up and protecting the west coast waters. She also teaches and tutors children in Santa Monica as a part of the "Virginia Avenue Project." Aside from her philanthropic tendencies and devotion to her craft, she always takes time to give some love and attention to her 50-pound, Swiss Mountain dog, Shasta.[3]
